Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

No sales tax for NJ, plus 2000 charge up instant credit. My model Y Long Range ended up being 48k otd (after tax credits of course)
What do you mean no sales tax or NJ? Can you provide more details of the deal you were able to get? Thanks!

Am I missing something? I go to the Tesla page and all the Model Y are >$55k. This would make the tax credit invalid. Did they raise the prices back up?
You are looking at available inventory in your area. The cheap ones that qualify are gone by now but you can custom order and build one that qualifies. It is possible, however, that the tax credit changes in March, and you may not get yours sooner.

You based your decision on a social media app? That's funny. Makes no sense.
Yes, makes no financial sense. But the CEO disgusts me. I don't think this is a thing for other things I purchase. I know I am not alone. If every CEO treats employees like he does, 70% of the people here will be only searching for deals on toilet paper.

If anyone knows.... My parents live in pa and qualify for the 7500 credit. I live in nj and do not. Is it possible to deliver the car to nj where they would also get the extra $2000 incentive from the state, register the car in nj and have both our names on the title?

Also wondering if nj will add the model y to the additional 2k incentive

NJ doesn't charge sales tax on EV, so we save minimum $3-4k. One of few benefits of being in NJ.

The recent model 3 and model y are vision only right? No radar, no sensors. Why would anyone consider it?
because it works great. unless you're a bat, you don't have radar. vision works just fine... I have used autopilot for around 10000 miles and its been great.

The $7500 tax credit has income caps for individual and joint filers so eligibility is not as easy as people think, unless you want to take a chance with playing with the IRS. For I think for a good number of people who buy Tesla's, their income is over the cap so the tax credit is not applicable. Feel free to look up the exact amounts for the caps to see if it applies to you or not.
What if the join income is more then 300 k but one of the person in the family makes less then 125 k? In that case case are they eligible for 7500 tax rebate??

If you are in computer,you can filter by your zip code and sort by low to high price.it should show what is available to u. I wasn't lucky for 52990 but settled for 54990👍
So $54990 would work? None of those other fees that are added on would ruin getting the $7500?

Besides better range, why do you recommend the Y over the 3?
It's WAY bigger inside and a lot more storage space. Much better fit as a family car than M3. We switched from minivan to model Y and it works out really well. But if you are single or no kids Model 3 should work ok. I just like to sit a little higher in Model Y.

It makes absolutely no sense. This guy has been pulling stints way worse than this recent Twitter take over. But that is what you choose to focus on.

You're not wrong for skipping on this car due to Musk. Reality is he owns the vehicles , not you. As we integrate more smart features into cars we also remove more ownership of said car from the buyer.

Musk is a different kind of crazy. From the yolk steering wheel only option in some models to the force updates that downgrade or possibly upgrade your vehicle. The mass firing is also an issue. And I'm only talking about Tesla. You could buy one of these vehicles only to have your only repair shop shutdown. This could make in warranty repairs take months.

I picked up a used vehicle a couple years ago. Came with a lot of nice add ons. With Tesla the next owners might find those disabled until they can pay for them again. Musk sees no issues with this.

I'm done now. This isn't a review of Tesla. We all know all the great things with these vehicles. They are by far the best electronic vehicles to date. Long maintenance times and glitches are standard in this industry.

No. Tax liability isnt that much higher on overtime, but the witholding is. The tax liability is what matters, not what's taken out of your paycheck.
