Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Damn, I lost $13500
So if someone bought a steak for $16 and ate it, then next month it's on sale for $10 did they lose $6?

Thanks what about the tires? I hear stories that you only get around 30,000 miles or less with a set of tires.

I was told you have to have a car alignment once a year because of the weight of the car
I'm at 96k miles in my model 3 and no alignments yet. My Pirelli P7 *all season* tires look like they will last me >45k miles. No sign of uneven wear. I rotate every ~20k miles.

Irrelevant. Model 3 is boring compared to the real M3. Good car for A to B transportation but nothing like the BMW in terms of driving enjoyment.
IMO I'll take my model 3 over my last BMW. I'm at 96k miles and yet to have all the "exciting" check engine lights and expensive repairs of the BMW at that millage. I also don't miss the gear shift and turbo lag, a much more enjoyable driving experience having instant torque.

Do you guys recommend full self driving? Also does the 15k put you above the tax credit threshold?
Absolutely not. Autopilot gives you 90% of the benefits for 0% of the cost of FSD. FSD just changes lanes (very very slowly) and doesn't work on the streets yet well.

I recommend you to try it for $200/mo. If it's worth it to you, buy it for $15,000… or just keep renting it month-to-month.

EAP/FSD purchase does not affect the tax credit.

All relative. Why people buy 1M house when 300k will do? Why is it outrageous?
So many buyers of these eco cars as well as gas burners, who think nothing of a 72-84 month payment on a seriously depreciating car/truck purchase. Take that nasty payment, insurance and maintenance cost and put it into a single family home and become wealthy and not stupid.

I have a M3 with FSD. Not worth it right now. I believe the cap is on the MSRP and software doesn't count towards that.

In short, no and no.

I'm currently in the process of researching rates as well. We have a 2021 Model 3 SR+ (which I got when it was priced at $39,990) and the Model Y was out of the question to replace my wife's Outback due to its price. Now at these prices, we're gonna score a Model Y Long Range 5-seater with the tow hitch.

Here's a good running list that I was checking when I was interested in the ID.4...

You are a genius. I can sell my leftover steak and get $16 bucks yesterday, but today I can only sell it for $10. Please convince me it's the same.

Agreed. I have a M3 with EAP and a MY with AP.

IMO
For highway driving the AP is a great $ deal ($0 extra).
EAP is nice, but not $5k more nice.
FSD is a waste of money at this time.

I'm in a local Tesla club and most people get 10k-20k max out of a set of tires. 30k would be amazing.
