Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

I was exactly in the same boat. Was considering a 2021 certified RX350, which I could have bought for around 45-46k. Over 12 years/100k miles, it would have cost me 30k in gas and maintenance, and assumed zero salvage value. A total lifetime cost of ~75k.

Model Y at 46k (after 7.5k federal + 2k NJ credit), over 12 years/100k miles will cost me 12-14k in charging and maintenance, for a lifetime cost of ~60k. Hard to ignore the cost saving.
You left out no sales tax on EV in NJ

Probably the best setup right now is a fun to drive car for daily use (could be the M3P) and then a true sports car for the weekends if you're into track days and such. That was my plan but then I ended up selling the M3P for another tiny sports car for daily use. So now I have two small RWD manual cars… figured it might be the last of an era so get them while I can before flipping back to electric in the future.
+1 to EliteDealHunter. I have a stick-shift 911 for the weekend driving in Santa Cruz mountains, but my daily driver is a Model 3 which is more sporty and exciting to drive than a lot of other cars. Perfect combination for my situation but all depends on your own needs and wants.

Pass until radar comes back. Also saw a post where a Model Y P owner was shown removing caliper covers from his "performance" brakes to reveal the bog standard ones. Nice upgrade Tesla.

This is a good price but not buying a Tesla right now. Stuff like the brakes, panel gaps, lack of dealers/service, dumb crap like refusing to do CarPlay - maybe some day

I have a M3 with FSD. Not worth it right now. I believe the cap is on the MSRP and software doesn't count towards that.

In short, no and no.
+1. I did try FSD and it was so buggy and useless after the novelty wore off, there is no way I'll pay $1K for it, let alone $15K.

Your loss.

I have the cheapest Tesla, and it's the most fun car I've ever owned. All the stuff you mention is something that only nerds on bulletin boards talk about...I've never heard another owner of a Tesla talk about it...and I live in Tesla central (Westside of Los Angeles), where it seems half the homes own at least one in their garage.

Does base M3 (43,990) get a 4K rebate in NJ? There seems to be a rebate of 4K for vehicles under 44k. But the Tesla website only shows 2k rebate.

Well that aspect is one thing, but the Tesla vehicles are pigs in terms of handling and weight. I'm waiting for a company to make an actual electric sports car before I go back to EV. Teslas are more like classic muscle cars with straight line speed and terrible handling. I'm hoping for an electric Miata or S2000 successor. The new hybrid Corvette E-ray is also intriguing.
But the battery weight kills the handling, no matter how much horsepower (or electric power) the car has. That is why Miata and Lotus are so good because of their light weight even thought their power is so little compared to other cars. I wish I could be as optimistic on the electric sports cars. :-)

Now take your econobox for a spin to Corona Del Mar and see if people with AGI above $150k drive teslas.

Tesla owners already think they drive a sports car so no worries about them.

I had lunch at Gulfstream in NB a few months ago...half the cars in the lot were Teslas.

I'm not sure if there was a car owner in that mall that had an AGI less than 150K.

What is your point?
