Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.

Tesla was found to be one of the most unreliable brands in America, according to Consumer Reports' annual reliability report.
The same report that considers "panel gaps" to be equivalent as "engine failure"? And the same Consumer Reports that also had Tesla as #1 in overall customer satsfaction among all car owners?

Here's a much more quantitative study that shows total repair cost as a % of car purchase price over a 10 year period, where Tesla led the way. https://theclunkerjunker.com/blog/which-cars-have-thebest-maintenance-costs/ [driveteslacanada.ca]

anybody know why this "expires" in March according to Tesla? The IRS page doesn't say anything about an expiration.
The batteries may get disqualified because they aren't made in the US and then the credit will drop. Right now the US isn't enforcing that part of the credit rule but it kicks in in March.

Well...considering that Porsche comes third with $500 oil changes and $10 000 PCCB brake jobs Tesla's maintenance is not as free as local inhabitants tend to emphasize?

Let me be real here for a moment. I just took delivery on a Mach E and it embarasses the Model 3 now parked outside.

There's no requirement in the tax credit rules on holding the vehicle. I wonder if there's some market for lower income people "buying" the vehicle and immediately selling it to higher income people. Like I'm over the limit, but my retired father is not. If he bought the car for $55,000 and sold it to me for $53,000, I'd save $2000 and he'd net $5500 on his taxes next year.

Just left Tesla and they couldn't guarantee you would get the car prior the tax credit not being available anymore. And they were unsure if it was beginning or end of March
That's because no one knows besides IRS. Only IRS could wait until 3 days before the new year to publish guideline that exclude Model Y from 80k. That IRS for sure will do anything in its power to screw Tesla more. You better bet is just do customer order and most likely than not it will come before March. Good luck.

Had two. Tesla's initial quality is the worst I've ever seen after buying 30+ new cars. Paint runs, wheels out of alignment, panel gaps, AC issues, etc. When I went to pickup my 2022 Model 3 Performance the spoiler in the back was actually not even stuck down on the sides so both ends were sticking up. Typical delivery where I had to make a service appointment to fix several things that were wrong upon delivery… since they have no way to just fix them for you in a few hours at the same location like a traditional dealer could. Had to wait a month and then drive 45 minutes each way to drop off and pickup the car with no loaner available.

Your example acts like Tesla is good because they dominate their new market… it leaves out the overall car market that is dominated by ICE vehicles. You really think that when BMW, GM, etc. go all in on EVs Tesla is still going to dominate? They dominate now because the big players are making plenty of money without even trying to compete with Tesla.

The future is now, clinging on to dino tech is for losers.

The 2 big Japanese vendors can't even decide if they want to commit to fossiless tech.
GM, Ford, - again - its been 12 years & counting & if selling dino was soo profitable - why is it that why every few years (recession or pandemic included) ICE mannies come back to get handouts from the US people?

At least the Euros has shown some inclination: VW & BMW - but selling to 'murican pickup loving peeps isn't their forte.

Except… sales tax in most states kills this deal.

Not viable after factoring sales tax

Tesla literally just lowered their prices 20% in order to qualify for a handout…
