Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Ok it's been 20 years since I bought a car. Since then I've gave mine to charity and now I want to take advantage of this deal. I am already pre-approved with my credit union(Penfed) but was wondering where to start on the Tesla website once I pick the one I like. What I am saying exactly is which option to choose from cash, finance or lease option since I already have a financial institution who will finance me.

It is probably too soon for CVRP to react to Tesla's price decrease. Hopefully they can update their website soon. If available, then that is another $1500 off for Californians. I was looking to buy a Civic and the lowest priced Civic is already $26k with destination and no dealer markup. Another 10k for a Model 3 is very tempting. Gas savings and resale value should make up that 10k easily. Drive a Model 3 for the same expense as a Civic.
CVRP it's $2,000 and up to $4,500

Model Y - NYS owner - you need PPF for this car. The paint is stripping away from the salt / sand whatever from the winter roads. Wishing I installed that when I originally got mine
So budget an extra $2k-$5k to make up for Tesla's paint issues… got it.

There was a person who blew his Tesla s model as well. I see multiple Reddit threads that show Tesla battery does reduce efficiency or ability to hold charge.
You have multiple thread that shows li-ion declines over a period of time?! Fahhhhk.

Have cash on hand, but my CU is offering 36 months at 4%. With options of increasing the rate by .25% for every 12 months added to the loan. Up to 5% for 84 months.

Any thoughts about taking the loan and putting the money in I Bonds or a HYSA and possibly refinancing if rates drop? Or just pay cash outright?
If you think I-bond can stay above 4% for the next 3 years, go ahead.

But then if inflation stays high, fed rate stays high, economy goes south… guess what happens to home and car prices?

You cannot have the cake and eat it too.

I mean, some other person posted it, not me. And that's what PPF costs, and yes most people I know PPF their Teslas. I didn't do it on either of mine because it's so expensive. It is something to consider though.

On March 15, 2022, Tesla increased the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of the Model 3 and Model Y which places these vehicles over the CVRP MSRP cap. CVRP-eligible Cars (per EPA Vehicle Class) have a maximum manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $45,000*. CVRP-eligible SUVs, trucks, and vans (per EPA Vehicle Class) have a maximum manufacturer's suggested retail price of $60,000.

Based on CVRP vehicle eligibility requirements, any Tesla Model 3 or Model Y that was ordered on or after March 16, 2022, is not eligible for a CVRP rebate.

PPF is a waste of money. $3-4k for that? So what? To protect the paint for the next owner? And to get it removed it's another $1500. They usually peel after 5 years. Waste of money.

Agreed, was looking into getting one then saw build quality firsthand and decided against it.
I have leased 6 BMW cars before buying my first Tesla Model 3 in 2018. And this past August, I bought 2022 Model Y AWD LR. The build quality was good enough for $55K car. But I bought these 2 Tesla cars because they are so fun to drive and the maintenance cost is so low. Tesla is also the safest car made in USA. https://www.notateslaapp.com/news/956/tesla-model-y-receives-top-safety-score-of-any-vehicle-ever-te... [notateslaapp.com]

My first Tesla was purchased in 2018 and bought a second Tesla in 2022. Neither cars had PPF and had no issue with paint. I did get 2 tiny paint chips on Model 3 during the 4 years of ownership. But the chips were so small and didn't affect the trade-in value. So PPF is not absolute necessary. It's nice to have since you don't have to wash the car too often. But for $3K, can do lots of car wash.

Oh, hey, that's the exact same day I picked up mine... lol. For the most part, I've made peace with it. I was reading about how since last week, recent Tesla car buyers in China have been protesting because they're in the same position we are, as Tesla dropped prices on their cars in China. I've been thinking about it, and although it sucks that I missed out on saving ~$12,000, I was happy when I bought it at the price I paid, and I should be happy now.

Take care,
Tofu Vic
The people who bought in November are the ones more upset. I've had the MR 3 since 2018 (then the 3s started going down in price) and the Y LR since January. I really hope other car makers figure out a viable charging network and knock Tesla down a few notches, so sick of their service and shenanigans.

Yes, because there are a lot of haters that have never had one. I'm not out here saying fake things like the batteries only last 2 years… just sharing my experiences.
