Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Wouldn't buy this if it was the last yuppie car on earth for that price. The rise 40% in electric bills and the costs to fix this pos you are not saving a farking cent on gas. Also you are not saving our planet. In fact the making of a lithium ion battery puts worse chemicals in our air than fuel makes me sick that they think they are doing a favor. Good luck going from NY to FL in one of these. I have seen some scary videos. California ppl are cutting the charger cables. No one can afford this shit! U will see when you are 10th in line x2-3hrs per car. Smd
Increased electricity costs certainly cut into the $ savings versus gas, but the real savings is in maintenance costs by not having an engine or transmission.

200 miles of charge in 15 mins… try again, buddy.

Tell me about it! A friend is trying to replace her Mazda3 with a compact crossover. HRVs and CRVs are nowhere to be found or have huge markups. RAV4s are in short supply. Only Subaru Forrester she could find was a stripper.

We have a reservation for a Highlander Hybrid Limited, but the dealer basically said it'll be three or four months and you'll know something when we know something — oh, and there are four people ahead of you.

Anyway, the Model Y will suit us better anyway. The only reason why we went with the Highlander Hybrid in the first place is because it was fuel efficient and the Model Y was too expensive. Well, last week's price drop took care of that
I'm in the same situation as you. I guess the thread crappers just won't understand unless they're in the same situation as ours.

That ui is terrible!! Having to dig in to the menu to do simple stuff is just dumb!! Enjoy crashing while trying to adjust a mirror.
I mean the rarity that I adjust the mirrors is honestly the least of my distractions; it's only a couple touches (one voice command). Way more often I'll text/dm or shop, sometimes in FSD, sometimes not. I haven't been in an at fault accident in 28 years.

I'm going to have to at least partially agree with the critic here. I think Tesla's UI is very good, but there are things I would much rather have actual buttons for (AC is the one that comes to mind immediately) to make them easier and simpler to use while driving.

That said, adjusting mirrors is absolutely not one of them. That being in the touchscreen UI 100% makes sense.
I find the UI to be fine. But I use the excellent voice control 99% of the time.

-Open trunk
-Turn on/off AC
-Set AC to 68 degrees
-Turn on/off driver's seat heater
-Turn on/off heated steering wheel
-Open butthole (opens the charge port door)

Don't have to take my hands off the wheel or eyes off the road. Works perfectly fine for most tasks.

Cool I'm glad. When I asked about the build quality I was actually asking about the panel gaps and stuff not closing or water getting in to the car and lights. Stuff like that, but the vndragonslayer person started off with the interior, lol.

The facts of their sales numbers show you're wrong. ~30% YoY growth last quarter with a ~30% YoY price increase, and between this price cut and Tesla no longer being excluded from the tax credit demand will be much MUCH higher than it already was.
Dude, wake up, there is no price increase anymore. The reality is 20% off, $7500 credit and -70% stock.

Well...it gets harder and harder for tesla fanbois to justify that leatherette and touch are not bad.
