Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

I do not have budget to buy new one however can lease. Anyone knows how the credit will work if leased instead of buying a new EV?
The leasing company (Tesla) gets the credit. They are not obligated to pass the savings to you. Have you considered waiting for used ones to fall under 25k for the 4k tax incentive instead?

-Secondly, since you mention budget. I'd be concerned about build quality and time to repair if the vehicle was in need of service. Perhaps a more reliable brand would serve you better. At the moment Nissan altimas are very cheap to lease (not reliable in comparison to other Asian brands but its cheap).

Didn't Tesla increase the price a year or two ago and now reduced it again? Not getting a Tesla ever, even though they are a popular company, they act super sketchy. Got solar panels from them, customer service is a hit/miss. Got an i3, it is ok for now, not the best EV. Hope 2023 gives us better EVs.

Cannot buy buy can lease, that doesn't compute with Tesla and budget.

So this means:
1. $7500 cash back after we file our federal taxes (assuming you don't owe any taxes)?
Or
2. $7500 tax write off (similar to donating $7500 to charity)?
If you make around 120k you are not going to have to pay $7500 which means you are not eligible for tax credit unless you are paid via 1099.

For prospective buyers enticed by the sudden drop in price, here are my $0.02:

1.Rear seat is snug for 3 adults. Any trip longer than 30 min, you might see friction developing among them.
2. Has horrible rear view. You'll have to rely on backup cameras. It is not an option.
3. Regen braking is not natural. It takes sometime to get used to.
4. 20" tires cost you more but also degrades comfort level.
5. No crumble zone for 3rd row passengers in case of rear end collision.
6. No radar or parking sensors. Software is not ready to completely rely on vision camera.

I looked for months and could not find a dealer willing to sell at MSRP. It may depend on your market, but it is not false information.

The Model Y is very enticing, as it is now cheaper than the Rav4 even at MSRP.
In todays market, it's false info. The difference between asking and actually selling are two different things.

Dealers are maybe $3-$5K over now.

They know that there's more vehicles competing in the same price range these days. And even the Lexus plug in is around $60K.

No way. China mfg's tried to work their way into the firearms business here in the US and they are/were dismal failures with no one buying their junk. Happy to see Apple and many others moving away from them. My iPhone SE is made in Vietnam as well as my Samsung.

World leading efficacy and range.
Constant over-the-air upgrades. One of the better software in any car.
Will hold value pretty well, especially after this discount.
Autopilot for long highway trips is great, included in base price.
Vast, Tesla only, supercharger network, charges fast.
Great navigation, large touch screen.

In stock, at MSRP for that locals in that zip code. That took me 5 seconds.

I'm sure, unless you live in Alaska, you can find a dealer within 50 miles that's charging MSRP. Sure, you may need to wait, but they're out there.

My used 3 is the most reliable carefree vehicle I've driven. When I got notice of a rear seatbelt fastener recall, Tesla mobile scheduled and did the work at my house. No other manufacturer offers mobile service until you get to Bentley. PLUS any travel is totally worry-free because the Supercharger network is reliable and just plug-in. The others are down so much you cannot drive away from home without anxiety. Travel will require your gas car. Check Rate Your Charge.
