Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

$7500 Tax Credit Question

Anyone with answers would love some help in understanding this.

Since it is a $7500 Non Refundable tax credit, I am worried I won't get the full credit. Unless I am misunderstanding it.

Lets say I make $100K.
Usually every year when I do my taxes I get back about $2-$3K.

How would I maximize the $7500 non refundable tax credit if I get some money back usually on my taxes.

Am I thinking about it incorrectly or do I need to up my allowances and give less taxes to the goverment per paycheck?

Ask your tax preparer. If you make $100k as single, $7500 is guaranteed.

It doesn't matter how much your employer takes out or doesn't take out throughout the year. All that matters is how much you're supposed to pay in taxes for the entire year. If it's over $7500 you'll get the full credit.

Thank you. Was confusing myself and thinking of it in the wrong way. Appreciate the clarification.

I like Tesla's; but you can get TWO updated 2023 Toyota Corolla's *or* two 2023 Honda Civics for the same price. And no amount of Tesla 0-60 or no-gas savings beat a pair of aces. Yes two whole cars for your family to drive.

https://www.consumerreports.org/b...288866980/

If a good new Tesla was only a few thousand more ($29K?) then price (with fuel saving) would be equal to one of the pair. And I would jump all over it.

And I think Tesla has overcome a lot of unfair anti-competitive resistance; making them cost to much.
Not a valid nor a fair comparison.

If you're comparing it to the model, 3, you'd have to get the highest trim corolla or civic in hybrid form to compete

for the corolla its the hybrid XLE, which cost $26,600, but currently all dealers are adding nonsense $3-5k of random accessories,

similar story for honda, I don't even see a hybrid option on the website but the touring is $30,000+$3-5k in add ons/markup

if you're in a busy metro area or larger suburb, they won't knock too much off the price, especially for hybrids or suvs

none of these cars are going for msrp in larger cities

tesla effectively made the model 3 $37k after rebate

it's still pricier than either option but not the silly "you can buy two!" nonsense you're spouting, just fyi

I just want to know how many people don't realize that unless you have over a 7500 dollar federal tax burden you won't be receiving this entire credit.

This post is misleading people to think it's simply a rebate. You aren't guaranteed to the entire amount and that should be said on the top post.
True but it's quite easy to have $7500 of tax liability.

Let me say it in a way that can help you understand. The built quality passed for someone who once leased 6 BMWs in a row. I actually like Tesla seats much better. I feel less tired after a long distance drive. But what's most important to me is the performance and safety. My Tesla can pretty much do a circle around most BMWs. That instant torque from Tesla is so much better than BMW engine that has to rev for a couple seconds before it responds. Also Tesla's premium audio is so much better than the premium Harmon Kardon audio system that was in my 2019 BMW X3 Executive Package. Let's not even talk talk about the infotainment system. Tesla's bigger screen is so much better and responsive than BMW screen. Yeah...I don't miss my BMW. Maybe the service department because they gave good snacks and drinks.
Alright, well as someone that has had BMW, Mercedes, and Lexus vehicles throughout my life, let me break it down for you. I am not anti-Tesla – as a matter of fact, I just became a Tesla shareholder (again) this week, so am hoping the company does well long-term and the stock price goes back to where it was when I sold. That being said, if you think that their quality of build is pristine, then I would like what you're smoking. It certainly wasn't the worst build I've seen, but it was similar to this individual's experience (https://imgur.com/gallery/hnanCZa) rather than what you're sharing – different Tesla model, similar experience. I honestly believe that as more car companies begin to roll out EV's, Tesla will be forced to ramp up quality which is something I'm looking forward to. They're just not there yet.

All your facts are sound; but you're just wrong. Two Hondas are still better than one Y. Even with their cons and worse mileage. See?

So perfectly demonstrating the real problem.

It does not have to be fair for two new ICE Hondas to beat one Y at the same price. Valid. Common sense.

I think Tesla has the best vehicles. I know; Except for price.
