Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Is it me or is Model 3 Performance not on the IRS list ? Granted we know the performance and long range are same car outside a few things like brakes, spoiler, faster program speed, wheels/tires.
Tesla does show it receiving the $7500 rebate at check out though since its under the $55K max set by IRS. Just thought it was odd its not on the IRS site but the Model Y Performance is.

Exactly IRS doesn't mention March 31st. I hope I get it delivered by March 31st else I need to think if I need to keep it or cancel it
Correct, this march delivery window is a manufactured concern. Congress may possibly update some rules in March but it is up in the air. However, Tesla changed the pricing to made sure they would qualify for the tax credit and you will be damn sure they will adjust again if necessary.

How big of a difference was 3 vs Y ? Also are there any other feature differences between the two?
I didn't drive the model 3. I just like the looks of model 3 because it's more sleek looking. The model Y has like a bubble head look, but it has quite a bit more room inside. More practical in my opinion for carrying stuff. I'm really not the one to ask about technical differences. It wasn't until this deal popped up that I had any interest. I ordered one. I drove it in the rain and was totally surprised and impressed. Can't beat it at this price. See what other all electric cars with 300 miles range you can get at this price range. Just my opinion.

How is everyone financing this? 5.4 seems too high for loan amount. Third party financing?
What is the step to do that?
800/month for 72 months seems like a lot and that's after 4500k down...

It's not a manufactured concern. Here's Treasury's press release: https://home.treasury.gov/news/pr...ses/jy1179

But to be clear, there's still a lot up in the air:
- So far only "March" has been mentioned, it doesn't specify whether it's March 1st or March 31st.
- Teslas will likely at least qualify for $3,750 after March because they are assembled in the US.
- The other half of the rebate depends on the battery sourcing, and it's where the concern is.

I got an order in for February delivery, but at this point I'm thinking about delaying until the HD Radar is confirmed to avoid phantom braking, even if that means losing half of the rebate.

It is a manufactured concern, and the reason to jump in now is to avoid the uncertainty. Tesla MSRP will continue to reflect changes in regulations, but what are the chances the net cost (MSRP less incentives) to a consumer will be less than what one is paying now? Very slim, especially another $5k+ decrease. What are the chances the net cost may increase post March, and through 2023, moderately high enough, due to regulatory uncertainty. So it is a reasonable calculated risk to get one now, for those wanting one.

FYI/FWIW: a friend of mine recently picked up his Model Y Performance back in December (after waiting half a year at least). He got into an accident a couple weeks back - not his fault but the other driver where she wasn't yielding to his right of way and clipped him on the front driver's side. The damage looks to be isolated primarily to the driver's side fender but it sounds like it's repairable. However, he told me it's going to take 3-4 months for them to repair it :T Fortunately, he has at least one other car and is considering buy another car as well lol. He's a car guy (more or less a mechanic without the official qualification/certificate) so he churns through cars and flips them... it's not a concern for people like him but for everyone else this would kind of be a big deal.

Has anyone who did a CUSTOM ORDER (Clicking the ORDER NOW instead of buying from the available Inventory) received their VIN yet?

If so, can you give us some info?
1. When did you order
2. Which model & upgrade options did you select
3. What city/state do you live
4. What is your new ETA?

Only you can decide what you can afford. Unless you want to post your W2, last tax return, and credit history for us to opine. Wink

Try local credit unions for lower interest rates.

New inventory popping up. I am confident if you order within this month you'll easily get delivered by March.
I noticed more inventory popping up too. I wonder why Tesla made so many just over the $55K threshold? I would've assumed they were made before the price drop, but they are just popping up now? Many in inventory are just $500 over $55K. Just have to take off the hitch in some cases, but that wouldn't lower the sticker price I guess. I wonder if Elon will lower the price of those just to make it under $55K as we near the deadline.

The IRS prob did not update after the price decrease. The old Performance pushed it over the 55k. Since when does the Govt update anything in a timely manner/ LMAO

Bought Tesla Y 2023 and so disappointed. It is crazy noisy on Freeway. It doesn't have a parking assistant. The display is not tilted. No Carplay support. Rear view camera is horrible. My Honda CRV 2017 is much better for half of the price. My wife ask me to return that garbage can, but tesla removed the 15 days return policy.

1. I'd rather buy American. If all things were equal. Tesla was American? But you have imports built in america; benefiting auto workers. Not they are necessarily better. And parts from all over the world. Like Mexico.

2. World competition is here to stay. If we try to slow it down; it will cost us over time. Even if there are other reasons for tariffs.

3. No, it's not slave labor. It's work. Yes, it's far too much red tape. Mainly it is individuals, understanding and then doing their part in producing a better product or service; at a better price per value. Not making the best, only for billionaires and saying, "you get what you pay for". Done though means, like modern mass production; that now includes good quality. Not planned obsolescence. Not economy models; if code for crap. And no common sense worker safety issue need be skipped ever, to do it. We lack GOOD leadership. So do not follow the Hurd.

4. So I compare worldwide and price does count. If there is little difference then I buy USA.

We need good leaders protecting competition. The automatic free market system restored. We need to stop the monopolies and their price fixing oligarchies. No one is above the law. And I mean the loving song of God for us, to guide us through; not broke 'woke', actually unequal, evil laws causing lawlessness.

When the government bought out the auto industry they became the communist auto industry and we all lost. If this was different then Tesla's would be less than $20,000. And EV's and "clean energy" would not be considered aligned with a political party. Wake up America. Indeed.

Political science dictates we will vote AGAINST the person we can be brain washed to hate. News and social media can manipulate your view. They did. Computer voting, really!? I said that, when that first started.

We are supposed to vote for character/wisdom; not just against a character. We are supposed to vote for the constitution and our own freedom. We are supposed to stop foreign manipulation of our vote and propaganda. We know some countries stated goal is to ruin us. We are being told, "Look over here" and away from Truth. And how long will we keep thinking nothing is going to happen? Where are we now?
