Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Question: my base salary is under 150k in 2022 but will be above 150k in 2023. I am single. Will I be qualified for the 7500 tax credit if I purchase a model Y now. Will my 2022 income be considered or 2023 income? And is this just my base salary only? Thanks!
Its not salary.Its AGI.. based on 401k and medical most AGI will be below 125 for salary of 150K.

its call not withholding tax from paycheck?
Just put more independents on your tax status so they withhold less of your paycheck. You may end up paying some taxes at the end of the year however

how was the experience?

Model Y or 3, did it come with radar and dual pane windows?
Grey Model Y.
Experience was very good.
The whole process is very efficient.
Inspect the car, sign papers, make final payment and finish final steps in the tesla app, drive away.
I didn't check windows and radar.
I can check tomorrow.
But I am sure someone else will answer those questions before I do.

I also bought the mid range in December 18 after credit it was about 40k. Probably saved another 10k just in gas savings in past 4 years. Im also down to about 230-40 range. If it lasts me another 4 years best 20k spent on a car.
10K in gas savings.. LOL. You already paid 15K more for same sizeed gas car.. People are so delusional and dumb when they calculate gas vs EV savings...

It's been dual pane for years now., Saved Tesla from continuance of endless wind noise complaints, like myself. Lol

The law says your AGI for the year you buy the car or the year before. It's not salary dependent, but rather AGI dependent. If you're good in 2022 and you buy the car in 2023, you're fine.

All the reviews I read and YT shows dual panel glass, which is nice. Heated seats for all five seasons (non 3rd row).

I am unclear about the radar. Some stated Ultrasound is gone and now replaced by radar which was previously there before the ultrasound. Some other sources said BOTH are gone, and it is just Tesla vision via cameras. Can anyone with the new 2023 provide clarification? Does it make a difference? lol

Assuming Y is similar to 3, here are some of my prior thoughts on why I like them.

Buying a car is still very much an emotional decision so you decide what are important to you.
Oh, nevermind. I thought you owned a model Y.

Well, it seems like you keep making posts and leaving us wondering what you're talking about with only vague allusions to your thoughts and ideas. SD hasn't had a mind reader listed on their FP in a while!

The IRS has no updated guidelines b/c the govt has not sit down to write the restrictions. Towards the end of 2022, they stated that they're planning to write this up in March 2023. There is NO set date for the meetings so far.

Even if they met in March, it is unclear how long it would take for them to finalize the actual restrictions and when the changes would reflect the updated guidance.

It is presumed by Tesla that they will only be eligible for HALF the 7500 since the battery components itself do not meet the criteria (not made in the US), but it is just a guess.
Thanks. If they don't write this up in March and I get the full rebate or even half the 7,500 I'll be super happy. Here's to hoping Smilie

Save yourself $50k and buy a Honda Civic instead of a BMW M3, just a bit slower Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)
