Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

It's anecdotal, but my Model S has had significantly better battery performance than that poster's Y and my S lived years of its life in Ithaca, NY. Btw, after 10 years and 120k miles, it still gets 250 miles on a full charge (validated this weekend) from its original 265 miles. YMMV though.
Good info.

Lots of ICE twits here thinking these are throw away after 8 years (when battery dies)

Do they keep adding model y or is this done. Dont see any under 55k from yesterday (norcal)

There has not been a Model Y in inventory below 55K since 14th when I started looking. There are plenty of Model 3 though. You would have to custom order a Model Y and hope it is delivered before March.
There was one available early Sunday I think? This was for Bay Area/Monterey Peninsula delivery. I had already ordered on Saturday, or else I would have taken it. It's gone now. Just check in the early AM each day, as that's when they refresh their inventories from cancellations and/or new availability.

New inventory comes and goes, you can also build your custom order but in that case the estimated time for delivery might be longer.

For those of you that asked me about the Nj rebate - the model 3 wasn't listed because there was not a model 3 that was under $45k. If your ev is under $55k msrp in NJ you get the $2k instant rebate from the dealer - right off the bat.

With tesla lowering the price the base model 3 can be under $45k. You can pick a color and rwd and be under $45k - $44990 to be exact (I think tesla did that on purpose). But you can't pick white seats or tires.

MSRP in NJ is anything related to the cars value. So paint counts, seat color counts, tires count, software counts for NJ. but Nj doesn't consider destination fees or any other fees to be part of the msrp.

And tesla took a few days to update it when I told them and then they took it right off the price of the car. So I got a blue model 3 for $44990, and rebate from Nj made it $40,990, minus fees. And with the $7500 I dont have to pay uncle sam this year it brings the cars value down to $33,490 and no sales tax. Hell of a deal!
I recently moved out of NJ a month ago. But I still have NJ DL. Any possibilities if I can get the rebate but get it shipped to the state I'm currently located at?

because i can.. i know someone who had to add 4 hours of trip time to their already 10 hour drive because of recharging.. whats the freakin point of that?
On a recent 11 hour drive (in Aug), I spent an extra 90 min charging, and part of that was overlapped with eating lunch. But I had no waits at any chargers and I only charged when I got low as 20% to 80% charge is about 20 minutes in the newer cars.

If you go to the webpage from a desktop/laptop (NOT mobile), once you pull up your order, there is an option for "Expedited Delivery". This lets you change your existing order to an inventory car if you find one you want.

They gave me a code for the mobile charger and I got the J1772 adaptor. Its definitely missing front camera or radar. I also got a price adjustment of 6k the day before it got delivered. Since I ordered before 3/14/22 I also applied for the clean vehicle rebate. Hopefully that comes through.

Depends on the miles and route

It's like a smartphone

You're not supposed to fully charge if you need continuous usage

You generally charge for 20-30 minutes n then continue driving

Even if we round up, the person you know stopped 8 times, 30 minutes each?

Superchargers usually charge about 200 miles per 30 minutes

If your friend was driving 1600 miles (30 minutes x8, your 4 hours) that's not unusual

They knew this going in buying an ev, doesn't matter if it's a tesla or some other ev

What's unusual is not stopping for the restroom, snack, or meal on a 10hr+ trip

That seems to be what you're implying

I can live with that. And do a title transfer later. Just want to know the possibilities and complexity. Most of all, the delivery of the vehicle to a different state.

There has to be more to this. You didn't take delivery for 10 months after your initial order? That CVRP rebate will either be good for you and everyone else (that qualifies), or not at all. It's based on delivery date, not order date. And what's the details regarding the 6K price adjustment, was it to bring it to current prices today?

That code for free mobile charger is interesting, as I've seen people on the Tesla forums mention that, but mostly were 2022 deliveries. Any 2023 deliveries still get that bonus?

The answer is no . Credit card payment is limited to just the initial $250 fee
Then what is $4,500 down payment they are asking at the time of order.? Thought they will deduct $4500 immediately at the time of order.

Isn't the model Y considered SUV and have the price cap of $80k for the tax credit?
