Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

Who did you contact at Tesla? I'll try too.
I just emailed a couple of stores near me using their email on Tesla's website.

Is no one waiting to see what the new updated sensors look like in the announcement at the end of this month?

My understanding is the 1st gen Vision camera system is not as capable as what was hoped in the current stockpile of Y's
I think most are probably new to Tesla and ignorant about the sensor/camera revisions, or do know, but don't want to risk ordering too late and having a delivery date/possible delay past March, possibly jeopardizing the full rebate amount.

I need a large car for 6 ppl, should I buy this or Honda pilot, how is the 2 seats in 3rd row, 60k vs 45k after tax. No tax rebate for me
I own a 2021 Pilot SE. The 3rd row is spacious enough for an average size adult. Don't expect Expedition type space, but it's much more spacious then a Model Y third row or even a Toyota Highlander. 6 people allows for a lot of options even if traveling since you could technically sit 2 in front, 3 in mid, 1 in back and still put down the 2-seat section in the 3rd row for extra luggage space. Gets a little more tricky if you have multiple child car seats though. I haven't been in the new 2023 Pilot, but I know it's larger and have even more space if you get the TrailSport version.

What technology are we talking about ? Tesla doesn't event warn if a car is backing out. My Honda at least warns me when there are people and cars around.

I mean mostly the auto driving stuff... But now others are catching up..
the 15-20K price difference for the same size car will not help recouping the gas savings.. People are dellusional.. Until we hit $7 a gas, EVs can never meet that gap..

Put that $15K in the market and it will be double by the time when you buy a new car next time..

When it come to tech absolutely Tesla beats in every single item. When it comes to size, overall cost, convenience, still a long way to go for EVs to become competitive.. For those who charge in public chargers, the cost is almost same as gas... The biggest issues why people don't buys is Cost, convenience and Size... These EVs are tiny for their 1-1 comparison..
except a tesla 3 is 37k and model y is 47k.
a civic is 30k and a rav 4 hybrid is 45k. math it out..

or a VAN
Seriously, if you need to hull more than 2 people on a regular basis. get a VAN.

SUVs are just slightly more useful than sedan when it comes to hulling people, the biggest benefit SUV give you is a better driving view (or as BMW calls it "commanding driving position") and easier to go in and out of the vehicle.

i have a EV, a VAN, a SUV and sedan, if i must keep just only one vehicle for my family, it would be a VAN.

Fed tax is going to be more than 10% for the majority buying tesla.

Single Filers and Married Couples Filing Jointly
Tax Rate Taxable Income
(Single) Taxable Income
(Married Filing Jointly)
10% Up to $10,275 Up to $20,550
12% $10,276 to $41,775 $20,551 to $83,550
22% $41,776 to $89,075 $83,551 to $178,150
24% $89,076 to $170,050 $178,151 to $340,100
32% $170,051 to $215,950 $340,101 to $431,900
35% $215,951 to $539,900 $431,901 to $647,850
37% Over $539,900 Over $647,850

Quote from pugxiwawa :
No, that's wrong. The only reason government would owe you money is you already prepay tax to government, and it just returns the portion that you overpay. That has nothing to do with your tax liability.

For example:
You make 75k a year, assume federal tax is 10%. You owe government 7500 at the end of year. Most people choose to have withholding throughout the year, assume you pay government 7500/12= 625 per month, at the end of year, you already pay 7500 in tax, therefore, refund is $0 because you already pay what you owe.

IF you choose to pay government double of $625, by mistake or whatnot, at the end of year you would've paid $15000 to government. But you only owe $7500, so you file tax return and government now owes you $7500 so you get that back. The $7500 is not some magic money that government gives you. It's your money but you overpay so they return to you.

If you don't pay government anything throughout the year, you still owe it $7500 at the end of year, so you write a check to IRS when filing return for $7500 + interest.

Now here come EV rebate. if you buy a Tesla and get $7500 rebate, it reduces the amount you owe by $7500 REGARDLESS what you choice to do in the 3 scenario above. So now because of rebate you owe government $0, so whatever you have paid to government throughout the year you will get it back. Government does not give you $7500 on top of what you owe.

Assume you make 50k a year and owe government $5000 at the end of year. Buying a Tesla will reduce that $5000 to $0, but government will not send you another $2500 because you don't owe enough. If you prepay throughout the year you will get $5000 in refund, not $7500.

Hope this is clear.

or 3 Kia Fortes?

You should compare to peers, Y to EV SUVs. The only thing that comes close is Audi Q4 or Ford MME and they're almost 50K. I believe Ford does get the tax credit, but no 3 rows so it's out for me
Yes yes but you're missing the point. You can compare ice cars to EVs. Just as you seem to be shopping for the best deal in an EV. I don't like it either but I'd rather have two civics than one Tesla. And I'm saying the government who kind of is the auto industry unfortunately has a lot to do with Tesla's goodness being overpriced. And I do not know if Tesla can overcome this but I know they must. Which leads me to believe they should forgo some unnecessary options and make a good basic non-golf cart model or even an inexpensive sports car. But toaster or car we have to stop guessing prices by availability alone.

which is a sad option We just don't like. And that is not to buy a new Tesla at all right now. because that's a valid choice too.

That doesn't even make sense for the 3 to be recommended and the Y not to get it. They've basically the same vehicle; the Y is just jacked up adn can seat up to 7. They share the same major powertrain components, battery, motors, dashboard, headlights, taillights, software, etc. 75% of their components are shared.
