Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

For all you who ordered a new Model 3 or Model Y (sorry, can't say M3, as I used to own an E90 M3), make sure to budget for essential accessories/upgrades:

-window tint, ~$700 if you want to tint the roof. I would say this is a must for car with so much glass, but I have also heard the roof glass blocks a lot of heat/UV. And you can optionally tint your windshield, with legality unlikely. ~$400 for window tint, ~$300 for roof tint, ~$200 for windshield tint.
-all weather mats, $150-$300, I heard the carpet mats are crappy, so you'll want WeatherTech or OEM Tesla, or something better.
-console organizers, $30-$50, helps your console not be a drunk drawer in your car.
-wheel covers, $150-$200, if you're not to keen on the aero covers, no need if you upgraded to 20"/performance wheels.
-PPF, too expensive for me, but you're looking at $$$, thousands.

Amazon, Aliexpress has many good options.
-Window tint. I didn't bother on my 3. I bought one of those cheap sunroof shades from Amazon for $30 and it covers the roof and part of the back glass. I only use it in the heat of summer here in NC.
- All weather mats. A definite PLUS. I also got a trunk liner as well and a frunk liner too, for about $150 shipped on eBay.
- Console organizer. I just 3D printed one for my wife's incoming Y, but I have the JOWUA organizer in my 3
-PPF. Agreed, too expensive. My 3 has nearly 24,000 miles on it and just a few rock chips up front is all. I touched the up with the official Tesla touch up paint and it looks as good as new unless you're right up on it.

I'm not a finance person at all. But the tax stuff is much simpler than everyone makes it sound.
There are 3 simple factors in the math.

Tax owed:
Based on how much you work, how much you make, kids, college, gains, medicare, social security, losses, and lots of other stuff that's confusing, the IRS will calculate how much you owe for 2023.
Maybe you owe $9000 because of your job, and $1000 more because you made money selling Tesla stock before it crashed, but you paid for kids in college, so they lower your total, or you lost stock because you sold it when it was down, etc. So after all the IRS calculations, maybe you owe them $8900 in taxes. We don't know what that number will be for most of 2023, but we can estimate.

Tax (pre)paid
Based on a few different things, we can guestimate how much we'll owe in taxes. To make things simpler, we pay that throughout the year.
  • ex1: Maybe you under-estimate you'll owe $6000 so you pre-pay $500 a month.
  • ex2: Or maybe you over-estimate you'll owe $9000, so you pay $750 a month.
This number doesn't matter much for what you owe the government.

Doing taxes:
At the end of the year, before April, that's what doing your taxes does. It figures how much you owe, and how much you already paid.
  • ex1: $8900 (tax owed) - $6000 (debt prepaid) = $2900 (leftover of what you still owe, time to pay.)
  • ex2: $8900 (tax owed) - $9000 (debt prepaid) = -$100 (overpaid, refund check coming)
Tax credit:
The ev tax credit basically comes off of that amount you owe. If you owe $8900 by the calculations, the EV tax credit will drop that down by $7500, to $1400.
However, if you only owe $5800 by the calculations, the EV tax credit will only drop that down by $5800, to $0. the IRS won't owe you taxes. (They might return money you paid for taxes you didnn't need to pay.)

ex1: $8900 (tax owed) - $7500 (credit)= $1400
$1400 (new amt owed) - $6000 (debt prepaid) = -$4600 (overpaid, refund check coming)

ex2: $8900 (tax owed) - $7500 (credit) = $1400
$1400 (new amt owed) - $9000 (debt prepaid) = -$7600 (overpaid, refund check coming)

ex3: $5800 (tax owed) - $5800 (credit) = $0
$0 (new amt owed) - any amount prepaid = amount prepaid as refund.

Not sure any of that helps or makes it worse. But it was fun to type out.

That's not good unless they extend the federal rebate deadline.

I think I am also going to sign up at tower also. I don't like how GCU is not listing all the details for the loan rates outright. I have the cash but might loan half and put the other half in high savings account as somone had recommended laugh out loud

LOL. Why the attacks? Where do I say anything related or for/against ICE cars. I pre-ordered my Model Y on Saturday. Just doing some pre-shopping around and just wanted to share the costs for some things that might be essential, or wanted by buyers.

I've personally bought all of that, or have plans to do (tint) for my Model Y. No one is forcing anyone to buy anything.

This thread is seriously full of jackasses on both sides. I guess this is how our country is in general, there is no middle-ground for anything, political or not.

I've tried to read through the threads as much as I could. I have a few questions:
1. To guarantee the tax rebate, would it be preferable to order one of the vehicles from the inventory if it matches my needs?
2. If I order from inventory, how soon would I get the car? Would it be immediate?
3. If I have already ordered and want to switch to one in inventory, can I do that without losing my $250 deposit?

DD Data Point:

Placed a Model Y LR 5-Seat order very late 1/15 Sunday evening but did not download the APP and complete the registration until 1/16 Monday. It's a white-on-white with no other options. I am in Virginia and my delivery date was just updated to 2/10-3/17. Here's hoping that it gets delivered earlier in that range.
