Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

What happens if the car price drops or goes up before you take delivery? Do you pay the lower/higher price or the price you ordered it at?

If the car price decreases between the time you order and take delivery, you'll get the price - as well as any promotions - that's available on delivery day. If the car price increases during this time, as long as you don't make any adjustments to the car, you'll be able to get the price shown at the time of order.

In other words, price changes between the time of order and time of delivery won't hurt you and can only help you.

I hope this helps,

If I misread what the original comment, then that's my fault but that doesn't make what I said incorrect. Which was that "if you owe the government $10,000, you would get the full $7500 refund." I never argued about what "you are owed" Not sure why you can't get that through your thick skull.
Maybe because your skull is thick. You called a 100% correct post "totally wrong" or some nonsense like that. It wasn't. Your BS that it was "totally wrong" was corrected. That's it. Nobody said that every word you uttered in your life was incorrect.

How is the Performance version different? Unfortunately, Tesla doesn't tell us! They think they're super-cute and clever and we're just the idiots who give them money.
The Y Performance upgrades are right on the Tesla website when you choose that option.

for some reason thought it was end of March. I'm way off then. thanks
Actually, they said they will evaluate it in March. Basically pushed it back and left it vague until more structured guidelines come out. Tesla estimates that these vehicles would be eligible for the HALF since the batteries are made with imported stuff.

No one knows if they have it all typed and will vote it in, or I'd they're gonna sit down and type it then discuss. Could be March 1st, could be discussion in March then not finalized weeks/months later.

Basically we don't know, but you're guaranteed safe if you take deliver PRIOR to March

On the official Tesla website [tesla.com], it shows the following text if you choose the Performance:
Quote :
Performance Upgrade

Increased top speed from 135mph to 155mph
21'' Überturbine Wheels
Performance Brakes
Lowered suspension
Aluminum alloy pedals
Carbon fiber spoiler
The photos also change to show the key differences.

I hope this helps,

Also:

"With its two motors spinning out instant electric torque, the Model Y is one of the quickest small SUVs you can buy. In MotorTrend testing, the 384-hp, 376-lb-ft Model Y Long Range accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds. The Model Y Performance packs 456 hp and 497 lb-ft, which cuts the 0-60-mph sprint down to 3.5 seconds."

Downside is performance loses a bit of mileage.

They only extended it until March, not the end of March. So you have to take delivery in January or February. We don't know what happens after that. Maybe they release their new guidance and its lowered to $3750, and maybe they kick the can further down the road.
Can someone confirm on IRS rebate. I am unable to find stating anywhere until March 1st?

It won't necessarily be on 03/01/2023, but sometime in March 2023.

The official text reads, "This proposed guidance is expected to be issued in March 2023."

He-he, applied for tesla loan, was approved and 2 days later I got an email saying that may loan is from Wells Fargo. Don't really like Wells Fargo and I think my previous loan was not showing the lender. I even though that I pay directly to Tesla.

Woke up in the middle of night, actually early morning and found this post and here's my update:

Maryland

MYLR - 5 seat - 19" wheel -Blue exterior and Black interior - No Tow or FSD

Order Date: 1/13/2023 - 3:20 AM EST

Received email with VIN - 1/13/2023 - 8:40 AM EST

Delivery date assigned - 1/16/2023 or 1/17/2023

Didn't have auto loan in place, so rescheduled delivery for 1/19/2023.

Just picked it up today… no major issue with the vehicle… there seems to be hairline scratches on the trunk if u look closely, so may take it to Service center for fix.

VIN starts with 7SA and from what i could find from the VIN decode, it's a Austin built 2023 model.

lol. No, I do not recommend paint protection film (PPF), but did consider it for weeks and can see why some people want it on their car. I don't consider my car an investment.

Out of curiosity, did I give off vibes that I would recommend PPF and that think of my car as an investment?

Take care,
Tofu Vic
What is a good ceramic coating I can do myself. I've been using Turtle Wax ICE Seal N Shine and been pretty happy with it but does not last all year.

Again, it's not comparable to civic. The only similarity between them is that both are cars. The average new car cost in America last year was 48k, so model Y now costs around average what people are paying for new car. It's not some exotic car that's unattainable. If anything, the reason why civic is cheap is because it costs very little to make and missing all the features in Model Y in addition to size. This is like saying everyone should buy cheap $300 Chinese android phone instead of iPhone, because both make phone calls and both can go online. We know that's not the case as there are great inherent benefits of going with what iPhone or premium android offers. Being able to get 2,3 or 4 Chinese knock off phones for the same price is irrelevant.

That's why you cross shop comparable car in the same category, not just go by random price of a car that is too small, slow, and lack of technology. A lot of us would never consider civics or corollas regardless their price. They just don't have what we are looking for.
I don't like any of them. You don't have to either.

It's still two cars to one and that's twice the utility. For what they really do.

It's OK because car prices are about to crash; with many other thing. Then I may buy used. At about an eight of what the Y costs?

Y ask Y?

Oh, I can afford more. Darn pesky thinking!

And stubborn say what???
