Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Do you still qualify for the tax credit if you finance/loan the car?

You're right, it is not 36k. It is actually 34k in NJ after 7.5k federal tax credit, and 4k state rebate at point of sale. Plus no sales tax.
Sadly in California, it's more like $51K after taxes and fees, less $7,500 tax credit; still about $44K vs a Prius that starts at $30K + tax, which probably comes out to $34K OTD; roughly $10K price difference.

In one of the Tesla forums, I saw the following update on CVRP eligibility. It looks like the rebate eligibility is not going to be retroactive.

"Hello,

With Tesla's recent price reduction for the Model 3 and Model Y, those vehicles will once again be eligible for CVRP, pending Tesla completing necessary documentation to add them to the CVRP eligible vehicle list. Until the vehicles are on the list, consumers purchasing and taking delivery of MY 2023 Tesla Model 3s and Model Ys remain ineligible for a rebate. The delivery date of the vehicle must be AFTER the models are added to the CVRP eligibility list.

Thank you"

Out of curiosity - those who are ordering, are you getting the Enhanced Autopilot or FSD?

I'm not interested in FSD, but the Enhanced Autopilot seems like a popular option.
If you know someone in software talk to them if they would buy beta version. I wouldn't just too much risk and again I am risk averse.

for some reason thought it was end of March. I'm way off then. thanks
That's what I'm thinking also. Till the end of March. Although I haven't seen anything official stating March 31st. From what I understand, we can back out at anytime and lose no more than the $250 ordering fee. I hope I'm not wrong about that too!Confused

Not everyone qualifies for the 7.5K so it is a false statement

I guess yo would say it is really 28K because you will save 6K in gas LMAOLMAOLMAO

Would like to order and will just lose $250 if the federal credit didn't work because of delivery date. My question is, can I return the wall charger and mobile connector?

with this massive price drop, tesla basically corrected its own price and reset it back to market value

I bought one when this deal showed up because all the hybrid/plugins i were looking at were all marked up significantly and then the price drop happened and in my area (socal) the model y actually undercut several of the options I was looking at (due to dealer markup)

if tesla drops again, it'll be even better for all EV/plugin buyers because it will force everyone else to lower prices

I doubt another price drop like this will happen. It may drop $3,750 after march if the treasure dept gets it together and writes up rules for the EV credit like they said

Other than that, dropping any more than $3,750 would set tesla's cars below market value for the category, which doesn't make sense and it would start competing with hybrids and even some non hybrids with similar feature sets
You want tesla to loose money check the news they made about 15k on average last 4 months .. after this price drops they only making 3-4k per car this year i doubt they do price drops.
If they do a price drop they are making nothing by selling cars.. chances are 20% of price drops anymore.
Just my 2 cents

You can't apply without a vin.

I placed a separate order for the mobile charger after I got est time and vin. Don't want to go home without one in case they don't have stock at the store.

fyi, different banks might have different set of rules, I applied without a Vin and got approval in half an hour and was told to contact bank upon receipt of Vin and Insurance to schedule payoff to Tesla
