Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

VW ID.4 itself isn't the issue. It's more of the charging network reliability; if you were to travel far distance and relying on Electrify America, you'll be in for a long wait or some broken chargers along the trip.
Man, this is the first time ive ever seen any of the owners of the cars admit that the electrify america is unusable. All youtube vlogs and blogs say that electrify america is plagued with problems and unusable, but then the kia/vw/etc fanboys gaslight about how it "works fine" and no one has any reason to buy a tesla

Meanwhile it was so bad youre saying you will just go back to a prius. That is incredible.

I owned a tesla, sold it for a profit, and live in a city that doesnt need cars, but i cant imagine how bad an experience has to be to want to return to gas stations. I borrowed a relatives gas car for 2 weeks and going to gas stations made me want to shoot myself compared to plugging in my garage.

I go to gas station once a month. You must drive a lot to have to go to gas stations so many times in 2 weeks. Were they giving away something for free?

Lol, average american drives 10,000-12,000 miles. So your car has a 1,000 mile gas tank??

For people who fail at arithmetic: car had low gas when i got it, put more gas in it, i did 400 miles in two weeks, so had to gas it up once, and then gas it up again when i gave it back.

MATH HARD

Going to the gas station feels like going to the laundromat. Like.. its 2023 folks you can have a washer and dryer in your home if youre not poor

This is ridiculous, I bought a model Y but the analogy you made is absurd

If these cars are so smart, why do I see so many with wheel rash, especially noticeable on the black rims?

Question 1: regarding the $7500 tax credit, my wife and I might need to file separately and have her claim the credit. Question - does it matter if the vehicle is registered under both of our names or should I just registered under her name if she's the one who will claim in tax return next year?

2nd question, does anyone know if the alternative fuel infrastructure tax credit reimburses the cost of installing a 240V 14-50 outlet for using the mobile connector, but NOT the wall charger?
Are you filing separately this year because you are over the combined $300k AGI?

How long is Tesla's quote good for? My estimate delivery is Jan-March... Wondering when I should apply.

DCU is 5.24% before discount for 65 months. Whereas Tesla is 72 months (6.24% for DCU 72/84 months).

we live in CA and unfortunately, do not qualify for federal or CA tax credits due to income limits.

is it too far-fetched to think about filing separately for 2023 tax year so my better half may qualify for federal as well as state tax credits (CVRP)?

The biggest assumption here is, my better half makes enough income to have a tax liability of $7500+ (for tesla), at a minimum.

anyways, I thought I would run it by this esteemed community to gauge opinion and see if others have successfully executed such a plan or if there are other creative ideas.
Did you figure out if you file separately then your other half can still qualify assuming they have a 7500 tax liability at the minimum?

Lol....Guess people don't understand the concept of WFH. For people who fail at math, that means I only drive 400 miles a month...Math EASY...

Plaid 7:35 Nürburgring lap disagrees w/ your blanket Tesla assertion. And 7:44 to 8:10 (3P) isn't exactly boring, esp at price point.
Many cars are faster: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lis..._lap_times

But this thread is not about the Plaid Tesla, it is about the 3 and the Y, and they're just boring at cornering. I've driven them. It doesn't mean they're bad cars; I don't know why you have to be so defensive about a car. It's just that there are a lot of cars that are much more fun to drive through twisty corners. These cars are great, but in the corners, they have way more body roll than most sports cars.

The trade in offer I received for my Honda CR-V is 20% lower than fair market value so I'm weighing my options. Does anyone know whether how quickly I make a decision on the trade in impact my delivery date? Like would it speed up my chances of getting delivery if I accept/reject quickly vs letting the offer stand for a couple weeks (they gave me 30 days)? Thanks

a troll is a troll.

Drop the EV debate for a second. do you know that toyota corolla start at 21.5k, but corolla GR tops out at 51K? so swap your argument for a second

one top trim corolla GR can buy you more than TWO corolla basic, largely because the 0-60 time is faster.

you want to try civic? sure
basic civic is 25k (yeap, that's base price for 2023 civic, how time has changed), civic typr R is 45K, which again is almost TWO civic, largely because it goes faster.

and this applies to almost every ICE car manufactures: Golf - R, BMW M3, MB AMG ... the list goes on.

bottom line: yes, people pay for performance. and yes, if you have a corolla/civic that does 0-60 in 4 second flat, that corolla and civic is going to cost 70k. let me remind you that model 3 performance, which is less than 55k, does 0-60 in 3.1 second. which is faster than shelby GT500, hellcat, 911 carera and DB11. THAT is value.
ADDENDUM: This is also to SOME others posting in this thread, We all have to deal with it's not only one on one; when we respond to one and more. It's a public, many person thread. I usually try to address all; but you know, you can't only address all. Not even one; everyone can't read. That's private IM instead. Sorry for any confusion on may part.

You are oblivious are defending the fact you know you paid to much. While you may add what you want to this free speech, you are already over the line. Cut it there or get banned. You are not an administrator and have no right to call anyone a troll. Learn to disagree or shut up.

Bunch of childishness; that can't take a controversial comment. Glossed right over all the love I have for Tesla and are hateFULL; because I showed the price is too high. You know this is not war posting; it is VERY relevant the reader understand Tesla's are over valued right now. Next in about 2 weeks or so, a market crashed recession is here and everyone with debt will be loosing sleep. But buying a Tesla for $56K is a good move? (For most indeed). I didn't say you can't be different.

Don't put words in people's mouth; because you have nothing good to add. Speak for yourself.

It's is my hope Telsa will become known for it's pros and not be over valued for what goodness they are, as cool as EV's can be (a few unfortunately) they are not a status symbol. Apparently many want to look rich and the over price may seem to be a requirement. A fool and their money are soon parted.

But if you have money to burn and you're NOT trying to pose then I have ZERO problem with that. I'm never making ANYONE's choices for them. All we can do is influence and that works both ways. "Ya filthy animals". LOL.

And I also said I can afford it; meaning when the sensitive children start saying it's because I'm so poor, you're so wrong. It suggests you are poor; even with millions. Soon to be gone. And it's how I got to be not poor. Evaluating investments.

All this because I said Telsa's are BEST; accept for being over valued. I like the S.

And yes I proved it with no valid proof otherwise; by pointing out two new 2023 Civic, NOT one; but TWO clearly show the Y specifically, even though I said it worth more than ONE, it's NOT worth more than two. No matter they are ICE, not EV. Because I am not talking about whims and preferences. I CAN NOT know or dictate what your whims are, except irrelevant. They do not matter; in the context of a Y's EV savings plus it's extra over price does not make one Y worth two Civic's regardless of how they are even equipped. AND you know the math is your head agrees with this obvious observation. So you can "shoot the posting messenger" with illogical, backwards diatribe for all your want and Y's are still over valued Thus a VERY BAD NON SLICK DEAL.

And childish posts about how you don't have to buy it for a deal, Mr. Obvious; concretely agrees with my proven point.

I do not particularity want a Civic instead; but might be one. They are great. And the only reason I saying that is not to support Honda over Tesla. If you are asking if I ma saying all value cars should cost at least the same or less than a new 2023 Civic then YES I AM. But with one ACCURATE adjustment for all extra, ongoing EV's savings (of total costs). It's just an example; but like a $23K Civic vs. $29K Telsa S economy version (without driving for me! Etc..). That would be about the same. I'm simply saying the intial cost is not the whole. And Tesla's gas and perhaps maintenance cost are not adding as much as you would GUESS.

AND most people should be better off with an EV. AND I don't think we can or should eliminate ICE vehicle or hybrids. Freight trains are best as hybrid's for example. Interstate trucks might be more efficient (per total expenses) with an economy ICE engine or hybrid for now. Due to heavy weight and all highway cruising. And I think it's stupid to ban natural gas stoves suddenly as dangerous, etc.. Nor am I for breathing pollution or throwing trash on the streets; but I'm and no brain washed, global warming, green deal poser either. Balance people.

So everybody hates me. LOL. It's an equal opportunity attack; and I don't give a rats tale; because you paid too much!

i am only a random guy who reply to one of you messages , don't mistaken me with someone else. i am not good with wall of text (and obviously won't read it). but it looks like you put in some effort, so the least i could do is to let you know you may want to redirect this to someone else who you seem to be debating?
