Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

My EV history: Still Own a 2013 Nissan leaf, Leased a 2016 Chevy Spark EV, bought and sold(GM buyback) a 2019 Bolt. Just because I could not justify the price difference of 12k between the Bolt and Model-3 i did not go for it at that time. I am a huge fan of EV.

I wished for a Model Y since day 1(had a pre-order reservation which I cancelled later), but successfully overcame my longings till now. Placed my MY LR order on 13th Jan, I don't have a VIN assigned yet, but delivery is showing as "estimated between Jan 18 and Feb 1".

I really want to be happy with my much awaited purchase. And without that sensors and radar I know I will not be happy - specifically if I see them on the new cars soon.

Looks like I have two options.
1. Take delivery now, hoping tesla will give a retro upgrade option and that the price will be less than 3750.
2. Postpone delivery(not sure if its even possible), hope the price will not increase, get half tax rebate and think the remaining $3750 went for the upgrades.

Not sure if there will be a retrofit option ever and I am torn between these two options.. And not sure if there are any other options(Any suggestions?).. Not in a rush, if i go with option 2 and if the price increase, I know, i can hold my wishes once again, wait and go for a 30-35k SUV/Crossover EV (Equinox).

The trade in offer I received for my Honda CR-V is 20% lower than fair market value so I'm weighing my options. Does anyone know whether how quickly I make a decision on the trade in impact my delivery date? Like would it speed up my chances of getting delivery if I accept/reject quickly vs letting the offer stand for a couple weeks (they gave me 30 days)? Thanks
My trade-in offer is about the same, 20% lower. I'll go back to the trusted Craigslist to sell my car, where I've had good experience selling 10-30% over KBB.

Average miles driven per year in the U.S. (2022)
On average, Americans drive 14,263 miles per year according to the Federal Highway Administration.

Most americans dont work from home. Congratulations on not understanding basic outliers in highschool level statistics, you will probably never be able to afford a tesla at your intelligence.. you can leave the thread now.
Lol....Ask again if I have a 1,000 gas mile tank and then read my response and then maybe, just maybe, you will comprehend the response.

Generally always a bad bet to assume any hardware upgrades down the road on a Tesla. Software features, apps and games are expected, but never hardware upgrades as they are so rare. Even if they promised a hardware upgrade by an Elon tweet, you wouldn't know which year/decade it would come.

If I was to order a Tesla Model 3 right now and initiate a trade-in for my 2021 VW ID.4 Pro; if the offer is decent, how long would it be valid for? I know Carvana offered me $27K; Vroom was $22K...

Fact is that it's ridiculous to not have parking sensors on a high tech car. I dont need them but I will say its nice when parking quickly in a tight spot. Especially when not backing into a spot. If they didn't include a backup camera people would say the same thing - oh I don't need that haha. People say anything to justify suboptimal purchases

The prices will be reduced further by June for sure. There's plenty of inventory in my area that are not sold. Model Y's above 55k and model 3's above 44k. They are going to make 2 million vehicles this year and will be under tremendous pressure to sell all of it as they don't have enough dealerships to park their inventory.

Wait a sec...you got a point. So lemme restate that. If you're making under $150k and you don't have a pretty sizable savings/investment portfolio to the point where you can afford a $50k car but you're still buying it, you're not being fiscally responsible.

This tax plan still encourages yolo though.
Wait a sec...I agree. People definitely overspend too much and most probably can't afford a lot of the stuff they buy. Me? I'm a SILK (single income, lot's of kids) married to a frugal person, and we spend where it matters. We live in an area where having a car (especially multiple if you have multiple drivers) makes life much much easier and we've been surviving on one for a long time. Apparently we shouldn't make enough to afford our house or buying a new Tesla Model Y, but we somehow do - by saving and not overspending on things that don't seem to matter much in the long run (or only buying stuff when we see it on slickdeals). We had planned to purchase a new hybrid or electric car in the coming years, as well as add solar to our house, and after 6 years the Model Y costs the same as a new gas powered Camry, so...YOLO! Is it a splurge and an impulse buy? Maybe, and it would be about the first one in my life. But it's also planned out and a new car was in the works for us anyway, so it was hard to pass up a Model Y at this price, which we can readily afford, despite earning well under $150k.
