Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

No ultrasonic parking sensors and no park assist are dealbreakers for many. This is basically a way clearance these inferior vehicles until the new hardware rolls in by June or so. And man that hardware will be sweet. Funny that the 2022 model is actually better than this first run of 2023s. New hardware should be installed by June at latest.
I am sure it is for some but I doubt it's many.
If people need a car and want a Tesla, this is an excellent opportunity. Sure you are missing a few things but dont they all? Show me a car that has everything you want and will never be upgraded lol

My dad once told me once you bought a car and drove out the dealership, you already lost LMAO

For now, I'd take a 20K discount for some sensors that I don't use. It's not a deal breaker for me.

I heard the same from him at our private dinner. He said the new model will be the best yet and cheaper than these clearance knock off 2023 model y's. He told me how they have had so much time to innovate their base models while working on new batteries that comply with the tax incentive and the cyber truck release.

Because No 360 view camera. And now not even ultrasonic parking sensors in the 2023 model 3 and Y. Pretty soon you'll be able to tell the model year of the Model3&Y by just looking at the rims- wont even have to notice that there are no ultrasonic sensors hahaha. Sure, people will say they don't need it. But they'll be parking slow, especially if they are OCD about scratches and scuffs. Quite hilarious to have such a high tech vehicle lack basic parking tech. Reminds me of the iphone several years ago when it lost signal by holding it the wrong way! Fanboys will polish any turd to feel better about a bad purchase. Looking forward to see what Tesla does with the HD radar and massive hardware upgrade later in 2023 though. Hoping the new tech makes it into my cybertruck.
Thank you. I guess many others were too embarrassed to provide a response. I thought there had to be more to the story. I mean if it can drive itself, why can't it avoid a curb? Looking forward to the CyberTruck as well. Model Ys are becoming as common as Honda Accords, which indicates it has been successful, but I believe many buy it as a status symbol which it no longer is.

You didn't want to go for one with Android Auto or Apple Play integration?
Trying to figure out which screen is the latest model the 9 or 10.25 inch?

Most places need a depreciating car in their garage. Better one that costs less to fuel and maintain. Even new basic gas suvs run 35k. For 10k more the model y is a no brainer.

Interest rates are a lot higher now though so it's a real consideration for people who are lower income. Going to eat up a lot of money per year paying that loan. Raining money for the banks.

If these cars are so smart, why do I see so many with wheel rash, especially noticeable on the black rims?
The reason you see some cars with wheel rash, is because some people don't know how to drive or park.

Tesla doesn't save money on gas. Electricity bill, high insurance cost, and future repair cost. For ppl who can't do math Just invest the money and it will pay for gas. Tesla used to be cool, now there's toooo many on the road and have owner reputation that used to be held by Prius and bmw 3 series owner. It's now just an over priced Camry of EVs pretending to be luxury. Owners think they are better/smarter than others. Elon will kick u again w new model and radar soon.
