Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

I agree with all of your point except Cost Savings. I dont own a Tesla or Any EV for that matter. But you dont need to own one to do some math based on facts. Here are some hard numbers on gas cost savings.

A Hybrid (Honda accord, Toyota corolla Hybrid or equivalent) averages around 48 MPG. Regular Gas in my State is $3.19. 2022 Model Y LR is rated as 0.28 KW/Mile. The cost of electricity for me 41.8 cents/KW. At that rate Model Y would give me an equivalent of 27.21 MPG (3.19/(0.28*41.8). The 10k that Model Y is priced more than an equivalent Hybrid will save me a monthly Interest of $42 @ 5% APR.

In order to realize any cost savings compared to a Hybrid for anyone (including the interest savings), the Electricity Rate must be less than 9 cents/KW (24 cents without interest savings). I understand there are a few states that might have Electricity prices lower that 9 cents, But it is not universally true. Most EV customers are paying in in more in electricity costs, than a comparable gas hybrid. There so many other good reasons, people choose buy EV right?. I agree with most of the points you make, but with today's electricity prices, Gas Cost savings is just not true anymore.
If you're going to compare a Tesla to a Corola/Accord Hybrid, then you have to use a Model 3, not Y.

And the cheapest 3 is now $43900...not incorporating the potential $7500 tax incentive.

I've had two EVs...here in LA, the savings are extraordinary. I've driven to Santa Barbara, and a 100 miles DC filllup is $4.00ish at .15/kwh. Or a gallon of gas. Hotels I've stayed at have free charging for EV drivers.

I won't even get into driving performance.

Or despite the trolls, the status of a Tesla still exists. Go survey a bunch of people and ask them how they would feel if your blind date showed up in a Corolla or Tesla. Or if you're a realtor and drove your clients around in one.

Most people don't buy or use that feature

Do you have data to show the tire scratches are due to smart Summon?

It's proven Tesla is one of the safest car to drive but nobody claims it's exempted from accident
Never said it was smart summon. Noticed quite few wheel rashes on Tesla cars, probably because of the black rims. Asked how this is possible with so many smart features. No warnings given to the driver?

Question 1: regarding the $7500 tax credit, my wife and I might need to file separately and have her claim the credit. Question - does it matter if the vehicle is registered under both of our names or should I just registered under her name if she's the one who will claim in tax return next year?

2nd question, does anyone know if the alternative fuel infrastructure tax credit reimburses the cost of installing a 240V 14-50 outlet for using the mobile connector, but NOT the wall charger?
For married filing separately to get under $300k income limit, I am not a tax expert but heard that if you live in a community property state like CA, then your income between the two spouses has to be split evenly. The income earned while married is considered community property. I had considered doing this also (married filing separately) but I don't think it will work in California. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I dont know man.
If youre good at your job or if you have a healthy relationship, a car shouldnt matter.
If you are toxic at both, you can hide behind a car that falls apart the moment your new "partner" or "clients" touches it to show "greatness".

If buying the cheapest of the cheapest EV eco car that falls apart just to show status, youve failed at common sense.

Anyway, this model pricepoint is good. Though it should still be cheaper but with tax credits it should be okay. Either way taxes will negate the savings and FSD is 15 grand. Not worth it at all.

Take a look at your charging cost in the Tesla App. DC fillup is not 15 cents/kWh in CA.
I frequent SB quiet a bit, mind sharing a few hotels that let you charge for free. Lately, I haven't able to find any free charging.

41.8c???? Wtf where are you located? We pay 12c per kwhr here. Seems like a perfect reason to get solar then. Average for the country is nowhere near 42c I think, correct me if I'm wrong.

FYI to estimate delivery dates for you. is there a list of others delivery dates floating around
Ordered on Jan 18, 2023, Gray Model Y, Miami FL; delivery date Feb 23 - March 30
Just wondering, because if the Model Y doesn't come in time for $7500 rebate, then I'd like to order the Model 3 since delivery times are shorter. Thanks!

Yeah cost savings is the biggest x-factor.

If it's $2.50/gal + $0.40/kW then you'd go negative with EV.
If it's $4/gal vs + $0.15/kW then it makes a bit of sense. Everyone's situation is going to be different.

Where do you live? 41.8c/KWH is really high. $3.19/gallon is really low. Tesla Superchargers' off-peak rates are less than 40c/KWH. Electrify America charges 31c/KWH if you signed up on their plan that costs $4/month. You need the CCS adaptor though, to use EA's chargers.

I enjoy free charging at my workplace, but that is not common, I guess.

Its because no 360 view camera. And now the 2023 model has removed ultrasonic parking sensors. About to see a lot more curb rash on the 2023 models ha. So high tech yet its stuck in 1999 parking tech wise.

Tesla HQ designation means nothing. They didn't really leave. Yeah right, Tesla is going to close Fremont, their largest US Tesla consumer market (by a landslide) whr they have 22k employees working OT.

Your list is dubious. Has entries like AA relocating 500 flight attendants from SF. laugh out loud

Must be hard to reconcile CA growing GDP. CA may have already surpassed Germany as 4th largest economy. Haters will say it's fake news.
