Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

For people living in snow zones we were also told the 19" wheels come with better tires for snow and that the 20" can only hold suspect all weather tires that do not do well in snow at all. I might have that slightly wrong, but Tesla employee told us something along these lines.

Large wheels is like high heels.. they look great, and that's about it. sometimes that's all it matters and that's completely valid point.

You got less range, less tire options, more road noise, the smaller the outside diameter of the wheel/tire combination, the lower the unsprung weight, and the better the low-end acceleration, the lower the center of gravity, and the easier it'll be to change the vehicle's vector. So I am at loss at why people call large rims "performance"... when just about any serious performance car comes with small rim (F1 has been running 13 inch for ages, nascar is what, 15 inch ?)

Checks out. I'm running Pirelli P Zero 245/45 R18 (100Y) on Aero; better than stock MXM4 & hard pass on those 20'' Überturbine Wheels

So from that article, any Model Y Performance built on or after October 11, 2022 also has the Comfort Suspension. That's good info to check for on delivery date, we can check for the manufacture day to confirm about the suspension upgrade.

Also, does anyone know if all 2023 Model Y has Matrix Headlights upgrade?

Not all do. Plenty of early Jan deliveries that came without matrix headlights.

To Maximize MY LR battery life time (summary from my 3 day homework):
1, The best way is, Keep charging from 35% to 75% if you could.
2,If you have home charge station, (daily drive) from 40 to 65% will be the best.
3,If you have a long trip, could just go from 20% to 90%.
4,If you plan to stop using your MY for a while, charge it until around 50-70% before you leave. It will also depends how many days your MY will be parked (1%/day degradation, do not let it below 10%)

Hope these could be helpful. If I am wrong, please no hesitate to correct me.

There are other factors, but for what it's worth: Three days ago, my friend whose credit score is 760 told me the Tesla Financing rate is 5.34% for a 72-month term.

I hope this helps,
Tofu Vic
Got a 5.34% with an 850 Fico. Creditor is Wells Fargo. I ordered the base Model 3. As much as I wanted the Performance version, I resisted the urge and stuck with the RWD Model 3. I will be refinancing with a credit union at a lower late soon.

I had been shopping for the past few months to replace my aging Saab 9-5 (17 years). I had my heart set on Chevy Bolt but no one had it at MSRP so I just gave up. Model 3 fits the bill for my purpose and driving habits.

Trying Tower CU (as others mentioned earlier in this thread) for 2.99 - if that doesn't work out, probably Navy Federal at 4.74 for 60 months. Know of anything better in AZ?
I applied for account with Tower and GCU last Wednesday. I think SD post of rates is hammering these banks. I gotten no response from either on just opening an account. Do we need the checking account in order to apply for the auto loan? I thinking they want you to at minimum be a member before applying. Curious if you have an account with Tower and what turn around was in days for it to get created/opened?
