Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

I applied for account with Tower and GCU last Wednesday. I think SD post of rates is hammering these banks. I gotten no response from either on just opening an account. Do we need the checking account in order to apply for the auto loan? I thinking they want you to at minimum be a member before applying. Curious if you have an account with Tower and what turn around was in days for it to get created/opened?
I initially applied at Tower expecting delivery of the vehicle next month. VIN got assigned shortly after reservation so I called Tower to find out whether the loan will process in time for delivery. I was informed that due to a large influx of new applications, processing time is 20 to 30 days. I applied for auto loan as well as membership.

I went ahead and applied for Tesla financing which I was approved for at 5.34%. I had tower switch my auto loan from new to refinance. Since the rates are identical between new and used, it works out well.

I had the same concern since my Mobile Connector has yet to ship while my delivery is this Saturday. I was told by Tesla texting service 😂 that they have the vehicles charged between 80 and 90% at the time of delivery.

You're ahead of me. I applied last Thursday. The account number field wasn't required so I assumed setting up the account / membership could be done later, but I really don't know. I haven't heard anything yet either.

When I called Tower, they told me that once the loan gets approved, account opening is required which apparently has its own processing time separate from the auto loan.

Here's a good video with tricks and tips on a Tesla - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGuNgBmxDvo

Some of my favorite elements of our Tesla:
  • It will automatically route you to supercharger stations if you enter a distance far away
  • It will tell you how many stalls are available at each supercharger station
  • Unlike other cars, Tesla pre-heats the battery so when you arrive at the station it charges faster (benefits of the charger network being integrated with the car)
  • The continuous software updates, like how you can now live-stream video from your car
  • The fact that the car has a 360 degree recording system. There are SO many videos on Youtube of people who record people scratching their car and being able to ID them + send it to police. AMAZING life saver. This actually happened with my mom.
  • The instant acceleration, it's just a delight. You'll actually WANT to drive.

They seem to have the best rates of all credit unions I have a searched for. I didn't apply because of their maximum insurance deductible of $500. I prefer to keep it at $750-$1000.

Got a 5.34% with an 850 Fico. Creditor is Wells Fargo. I ordered the base Model 3. As much as I wanted the Performance version, I resisted the urge and stuck with the RWD Model 3. I will be refinancing with a credit union at a lower late soon.

I had been shopping for the past few months to replace my aging Saab 9-5 (17 years). I had my heart set on Chevy Bolt but no one had it at MSRP so I just gave up. Model 3 fits the bill for my purpose and driving habits.
Did they charge any processing fees on the loan? any other costs that we have to eat up if we re-finance later ?

let say if you order the model Y/3 which doesn't come with ultrasonic parking sensors, are there any aftermarket ones available as options because it's so embarrassing to see wheels shingles on a smart car like a tesla.

Just stay tight. every order Tesla is going to deliver by March since single penny counts for them. For exa: My sister who ordered in Jan 1st week, they called and asked whether she is open to pick any availability in fall back unit. They gave 20 inches induction free without charging against her booked order of 19 inches wheel. so she got $2000 upgrade free. Go and check existing inventory and anything above 55,900 price tags so many are available sitting in their lots.
