Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Get the one from Tesla. It supports the highest charging speed.
How does this compare to the adapter that comes with the car?

your comparison is apples to oranges using inflated figures and it is misleading. people that are going for a model y is not in the market for an accord or a corolla. not to mention, they are completely different class. if you are purely looking at numbers might as well get a moped.
but moped is 2 wheels, seats 1 maybe 2

someone purely looking for best gas mileage for a normal 2 axle vehicle a tesla is not the best choice since its still overpriced for the low range you get (realistically road trips going 75 mph they are lucky to get 240 miles if going with the suggested of not charging to 100 and not using to near empty)

some hybrids and vehicles getting 40-50mpg, gas at <$4/gal and said cars $25-35K range, the ROI will take a while for a tesla in comparison.

There are many who would be served better with a hybrid still but the pressure and hype from friends with Tesla's probably get to them to buy.

I hesitated to pick up between chargepoint home flex (16-50A)and Juice box (48A). Eventually,did buy chargepoint after some searching and studying online.

First electric car. I bought the home charger and will have it installed by electrician. Do I need any charging adapters to use with non Tesla charging stations? Is there some adapter that I need or does every charging station work with Tesla without an adapter(in USA). Thanks in advance.

Tesla will provide a J1772 adapter when you pick up the car. That will cover the vast majority of chargers at "standard" speeds. Non-Tesla super fast "super"-chargers will likely be of the CCS variety, but I would wait on buying Tesla's CCS adapter. Get the car, spend some time with it, and experience Tesla's Supercharger network. If you find that the places you want to go are better served by CCS, get the adapter then. You may find that with Tesla's Supercharger network, you never encounter a real need to use another fast charger.

First EV for me too. What is "standard" speeds in terms of "miles per hourly charge" rate? I believe that the Model Y can get "30 miles per hour" on a 240v outlet + mobile charging cable.

I have to admit, the EV thing is overwhelming for me.

Unfortunately ours doesn't have the magnetic arm rest, it still uses the physical latch.

We knew it was a Austin built because the 11th VIN digit is A instead of F. Also, the flyer found in the trunk says it's final assembly point, battery final assembly point, On-Board charger final assembly point are all at Austin, TX Smilie

Model Y china price is $37,775 and there is no tax credits or rebates.

Also if you want to import it to the US you will have to pay 25% Tariffs and ocean freight and local transportation. Which will equal you about same price as here in US
Quote from foxblur :
Thank you for the update. I'm sure you're sure your car is an Austin but I've read more than once most TX Tesla's are from out of state (ie Fremont) because of your state dealership laws. Just saying.

I won't have mine for 2 weeks but it's Fremont. Let's hope for matrix lights. Does yours have magnetic arm rest?

Most public chargers end up providing around 6-7 kW of power. So looking at Tesla's chart at https://www.tesla.com/support/hom...-connector , 6 kW would provide about 22 miles of charger per hour.

I placed an order last week for a Model Y 7 seat with no options, but was able to transfer over to an inventory vehicle. Got a super nice Tesla salesperson on the phone last night and found a 7-seater white interior and tow package (two options I was thinking about changing to if available) locally. This wasn't listed anywhere (didn't show up on discord or TSLA website). It had FSD as an option but they removed it for me. Excited to get it before March.
Hi, do they have sales support during the night as well?
