Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

That's the correct abbreviation, but in this context, MYAWD is used to distinguish the non-Long Range AWD models produced in Austin, using the 4680 cell batteries, with a 269mi range.

You can only get those in 'available inventory', not via custom order.

That is not a forward thinking company. Making it harder and not easier to park your car is not forward thinking. If this is your definition of forward thinking, I hope you don't manage a business. There are plenty of people out there that have trouble parking and it is to the benefit of a company trying to make money to appeal to every customer out there. I offered to buy my wife a Tesla but she refused bc of the parking system after she drove mine - and mine even has the ultrasonic sensors. Vision only will not provide an adequate parking solution ever for people like my wife. Id just be guessing but at least 30% of car buyers want this feature and to them its a dealbreaker. Maybe not to you or me, but its naive to say otherwise. And to be fair she is currently spoiled bc her car has 360 parking cam system plus sensors. It sounds like you've never driven a car like that. I guess if you dont know what you're missing you just dont know
how does your wife park if she cant even use tesla USS? she only can park if it has birds eye view??

My wife drives a 2014 Beamer with no rear camera so this will be a huge upgrade for her.

Its not about what you can do. You don't get it do you? I can drive to work without autopilot, a huge screen etc. would 360 parking system and ultrasonic sensors make parking easier? Yes. Is it hard to go back once you have that system in your current car? For many people, yes. Why would you want to downgrade functionality.

Do you wash your clothes by hand and hang them to dry? People been doing it for centuries. Would save you money by not buying a washer and dryer. That my friend is your logic. I prefer to have functionality that makes my life easier in all aspects.

Oh and do you calculate your taxes with software? Could just do it by hand on paper for free!

Again, not about what anyone can do. Believe it or not people have a choice. A company should strive to appeal to as many customers as possible. Calling it forward thinking is just naive or worse

Specifically the short range AWD, since most people abbreviate the Long range as MYLR

How does driveway work? Is it similar to Carvana where you submit details online and they come inspect and pick up the car?
I am not sure about Carvana. But with Driveway , you will get a link to your phone to upload the pictures and other information. Once this is done they will lock the offer and send the paperwork to you and I guess you will have 7 days to return the paper work, that's when they will pick your car. I am at the step of sending the paperwork to driveway.

Lol, nice of them though, if the engine has a problem thats $10,000 in repairs if its overheating, $20,000 if its broken broken. German cars are a great way to tax stupid people. I had one for a bit and every time going into the service center the amount of crap they would tack on as "normal" when going for 10k oil changes was insane (NONE of it in the service manual)

One was a $200 HEPA filter.. i would love to see how many idiots they got with that

This is YMMV
Tried Driveway for my used car. I got 11K from Carmax online and average trade in around 9-11k. Driveway offered me $4,692* what a joke,LMAO
I have it listed online sales sites for just under 13K, most profitable way to sell your car is private party.

Wow your local BMW dealership sucks. I schedule an appointment with mine and tell them what I want done. They come to my house pick the car up (valet) service and return it when its done. I've never been pressured or forced to buy any upgrade or additional maintenance.
I can see dealers take advantage of newbies and women often. Love my BMW def one of the best vehicles I've ever owned. Fun to drive for sure since its an M and so far nothing major.

Does the "within 200 miles" have to be within the registration State?
Nope. Within 200 miles where the car is available for local pickup. They can assign you any car in US as long you agree to pickup at that location. If you live in CA and want to pickup in NY area, feel free, but they WILL NOT move the car outside 200 miles local radius of original delivery.
