Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

I'm on my second Tesla. Could have bought anything. But any gas car <$100K would feel like a downgrade.

LOL just answer the question dude, how the f**k does she drive if even your tesla with USS wasnt good enough for her? she literally cant park a car unless it has birds eye!?? 99% of people dont have birds eye view. your wife is a bad driver if she relies on technology that only 1% of cars have. If she wants a rental i guess she needs to spend luxury money on fancy optioned out BMWs on turo.

I hate that tesla took away USS but at the same time i had cars for almost 15 years without USS and frankly never dinged anyone or anything in any garage or whatever. I just had to put it in forward and reverse more often so i could make 5 point turns instead of a 3 point turn.
What are you talking about? You seem to think everyone else in the world shares your viewpoint. Look- its ok if this is all your able to afford with the tax credit. But don't act like its all that and a bag of chips. It's a clearance model without parking sensors and soon to be obsolete without HW4. HW3 will not be capable of FSD and is non-upgradeable per Elon.

The key point you are missing is, this is brand showboating.. 90% here have no clue or intent of using FSD or in future.. they all got caught up in this fire sale.. but in principle I agree it was deceiving on Tesla's part to sell obsolete car on back of a tax loophole, Fun starts March 1st.

2023 Model Y and Model 3 have no radar and no ultrasonic sensors! Buyer beware! It was a cost cutting measure which they are largely rectifying with hardware suite 4, coming out in a few months. The current heavily discounted Teslas are discounted for a reason. You don't even have parking system sensor feedback. So sure buy a new Tesla but don't cry later when your car is half as good as the new one and has curb rash because you can't park a car without parking sensor feedback
If it's camera based, then what would happen during foggy, rainy, or snowy weather? Will FSD work?

Nope. At least FSD with ultrasonic sensors will alert you if someone encroaches in your lane despite the camera being dirty. But hey you don't need that either I bet some people will say.

Hopefully this information helps other fellow SDers. I owe it to SD for my Telsa purchase. Found this deal early, and was able to submit order early for a timely delivery in order to take advantage of the tax credit.

Ordered 01/13 around 3AM PST
Specs Model Y LR, white, 5 seater, black interior (completely base, no options)
Projected delivery date was 01/18 - 02/02
VIN assigned 01/20/22
Car arrived onsite at service center 01/23
Scheduled acceptance of delivery 01/27

I took delivery today. It's a Fremont build, came with matrix headlights. and privacy cargo trunk cover. Upon inspection of the vehicle, there's a light scratch on the right rear tail light, and the driver side door requires a strong push to completely close. Told a Tesla employee upon delivery, and they stated to put a service request in the app, and that I have 24 hours upon accepting delivery to disclose any problems (panel gaps, scratches, etc.).

Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase. Obviously I lucked out with the matrix headlights and cargo trunk cover. Wasn't expecting either. Car was smooth as butter to drive. Hopefully this helps some of you. Thanks!

Tesla is smart by pricing it this low. They get the low income crowd who can't afford better- the crowd that has never had a full parking suite with 360 camera and parking sensors. Its brilliant now that I think about it- sell to the crowd that doesn't know what theyre missing. They'll be tickled pink just to have an EV and a big screen. Probably the same crew who buy Hisense tvs and have to trickle charge because theyre too cheap to have a level 2 charger installed.
which is good.. then they can trade in their low end model for cybertruck/x/s later when they have more disposeable income

it has been said thay this could be a stripped down MYLR. Isn't this the same model that has been sold for the last year for 13k more? legitimate question, just wondering if changes were made when price was discounted.

I'm not entirely sure. I came from a 2020 Model 3, and my 2023 Model 3 camera image quality looks about the same.

I haven't seen or read from anyone online that has discovered a difference that translates into something you'd see in the car. However, they new hardware is relatively new. I expect someone to take it apart and compare, at some point.
What made you decide on trading from 2020 to 2023 Model 3? I don't recall there being any major changes and as you said upthread, your 2020 has the FSD software purchased.

Not criticizing, just curious.

every ICE car these days have surround cameras, but no one is giving you dash cam feature (even for extra money), netflix, dog mode, mobile key, navigation system that is as effective as tesla (excluding apple carplay or android auto).

aren't these basic features that ICE cars are missing and tesla is giving with no extra money ? why do we debate so much for USS only ?

also FSD is not useless with HW3, there might be some new features(which we don't know yet) in future that are only supported by HW4. Whatever we currently know of FSD is still available or will be available with HW3. This is same case as with any hardware

and no other car manufacturer is working or promising on FSD of any level, atleast musk is trying.. and we all know even before tesla, that FSD is impossible to achieve

Private party. FSD at trade in is worthless to them; only worth money to private buyers.

I'm trying to get rid of my 2021 VW ID.4 Pro, but at the same time I need to know when the delivery date is for the 2023 Tesla Model 3 RWD.
Why are you getting rid of your ID.4 Pro. Was considering it since it already qualifies for CVRP and the tax credits so your insight would be helpful.
