Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

Add 20,000 in 7 years to replace batteries. Expect range to be half when it is cold outside.

Not that bad. More like 3/4 range in the coldest weather in NJ.

No one really knows exactly when the batteries on model 3 and Model Y need to be replaced. Coworker's 4 year-old model-3 has no range drop according to him.

Meanwhile my S is 10 years old with 120k likes and has 93% of its original capacity. Yes, range is significantly impacted when it is cold outside. With a bit of planning, you can seriously reduce the impact - stuff like use the seat and wheel heaters fully since they barely use any energy vs. the the main cabin heater that uses a ton.

Can someone tell me why would you buy a Tesla Model Y vs Mercedes SQB which all for the same price & both qualify for the $7.5K rebate
For me the closest Tesla Service Center is 1.5 hr drive vs Mercedes - 2 dealership within 20min driving distance,

FYI - The Mercedes SQB is the EV version of the popular GLB model.

Any update if the crvp rebate for California residents is being updated to include Tesla?
According to the CVRP website, the next update is slated for February 28, 2023. But from what I can tell (based on the Tesla-specific eligibility page [cleanvehiclerebate.org]), the Model 3 (RWD base configuration only) and Model Y (several configurations) actually now qualify again for the CVRP since the MSRP caps are $45,000 for passenger cars and $60,000 for SUVs, trucks, and vans. That being said, the biggest constraint (IMHO) for the CVRP is the new income cap. For joint filers, starting February 24, 2022, the income cap is $200,000. Prior to that date, it was $300,000. The income cap also dipped for single filers and head-of-household but not at the same magnitude as joint filers.

Several people in this thread have mentioned Tesla not re-applying for the CVRP program but I couldn't find anything about that. The CVRP does a great job of breaking out [cleanvehiclerebate.org] the eligibility rules and requirement details but it is a lot to digest and apply to one's situation.

Well for one, the Tesla Supercharger network. I have no doubt the Mercedes is a nice car. But after 3 years of owning a Tesla, I've come to expect frequent software updates, at-home service for minor issues, and overall general lack of maintenance or nagging for such.

I'm not sure if Mercedes meets that threshold.

I am expecting further Tesla price cuts as the competition.is having better options. The Mercedes has better internal luxury for the same price. The MB feels like you are driving a normal car rather than an EV. Don't get me wrong I have Tesla Solar panel & batteries and their service is OK. A lot of times I have to inform of them on issues rather them letting me know if something is wrong.

Obviously it is what you like. But consider y has 50 percent more range, and you don't really want use top and bottom 20 percent making the difference much more pronounce. An MB is such a new player in EV, my bet is the drive train from Tesla is much more mature than MB.
Just ask you this: who made a better smart phone? Apple or Nokia?

Anybody get any recent updates on ordered 7 passenger configs? Kicking around pulling the trigger if people are seeing deliveries in Feb.

That's why we have both chocolate and vanilla ice cream.

I personally don't think Tesla will drop prices any further. Once they get right below the IRA tax threshold, there appears to be solid demand. So no need to go down further.
