Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

The credit works for me so the Tesla is 37K for me. The credit is the big reason for me to buy it

Anyway, the cheapest Corolla doesn't have any features. Most people that want a Tesla would not consider a Corolla, less the cheapest Corolla

Also, most dealers would not want to sell you the cheapest Corolla anyway. I just checked a few dealers and most of them wants to add some dealer options that you don't want for $2500
Good for you on the credit, If Joe Manchin doesn't torpedo it, but you didn't walk out with a Tesla for $37K. You paid significantly more hoping for a refund next year.

Cheapest Corolla has Apple carplay and Andrioid Auto. Pretty sure the loaded Tesla does not, so features can be debated. What is important to you may noy be to someone else.

Size wise, they are very comparable. Some people are still fooled thinking Tesla is some sort of status symbol.

As fo dealer add ons? Just move on to another dealer.

so you're saying anyone who has ever posted a YMMV should have their post deleted by mods

Probably should get off slickdeals if YMMV offends you. Your newspaper probably still has ads for Best Buy in the back on Sundays that sounds more like your speed
Where did you see YMMV in his posts?

I'll wait LOL

So funny, but not unexpected at all from the Tesla fans.

I call out a BS post, an outright lie and what happens? The Tesla boys come out of the wood work with all kinds of insults (well they think it is one) and attack!

Are am supposed to be insulted by comments about taco bell? I mean where did that even come from?

And I'm told if I don't like the lies, go look in a newspaper for best buy ads because thats my speed?

You guys really need to step up your game. Lies and insults sell cars!

Tesla bullies are basically immature insecure individuals. Grow up.

Would that be last years taxes than (2022) of income of 2021 right?
It would be either 2022 or 2023.

Accepting delivery today pertains to "the year you take delivery of the vehicle". That's 2023. As for 2022, that's "or the year before." So when you file your taxes in 2024, you can choose between 2022 and 2023 for your modified AGI to be eligible (or not) for the IRA tax credit.

How about performance?
I like the performance of a Tesla
What do I have to pay to get that from a Corolla?

I am going to ignore these other Tesla features since you don't want or don't understand them anyway

If you want to talk about driving out, show me a dealer that you can walk out with the Corolla price you posted. I live in the DFW area

If someone is looking for a car in the $50-60k range, what's the best Option?

Who said I hate Tesla. There is amodel 3 sitting in my driveway right now. As a matter of fact I just put the pillar delete on it this weekend, If you have white(which most do) I highly recommend it,

https://tesbros.com/products/pill...1229878431

What I hate is the lies being told in here. Like Model 3 is $37K and corolla is $36K. This is what I posted, but in your eyes I hate Tesla because of that?

I tell the truth and call out the BS

Here in California the PUC (public utilities comission) voted 5 to zip to basically kill the solar industry with them allowing PGE to give back the money/credit back to customers at a greatly reduced rate. Rate is taking effect in April will mean a 75% reduction for homeowners. They are trying to force battery storage on homeowners and those storage batteries run from $15,000-$20,000 up. Our grid is in trouble now and getting worse. One full charge of a Tesla is equal to two households using 2-3 days of electricity. This ruling greatly reduces people from adding solar to help recoup their cost of solar. Our governor on down has no clue how to fix this preventable mess.

The 'next batch of buyers' at a lower price point ($20K-$40K) will have plenty of used Teslas to choose from.
If they had to lower the price to increase demand while increasing production at the same time, and introducing the CT, I see further price reductions in the future, especially at the end of the quarters.

Also, how do they plan to make up the lost revenue from the gas tax?
