Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

something smells fishy...could it be one of the ones that were rejected during a prior delivery? then again, if they addressed any issues i would think that would be fine. but still, i'd double the check the odometer and pay extra attention during inspection.
I originally thought that too, but my VIN sequence aligns with ones being delivered in the next 2 weeks and not one that was attempted to delivered already. I'm guessing it was one already shipping to my location that was cancelled when it was time to schedule delivery.

This thread is now full of poor people talking about loans. I thought this was slickdeals. Car loans are not a slickdeal. If you can't afford to pay cash, you probably can't afford the car and need to reassess your life choices. Especially with a recession on the horizon. FYI only home loans and student loans are reasonable loans. Otherwise you're doomed to stay poor. I wonder how many repos we are going to see in 2024. Maybe 2024 will be the year of the car loan crisis like 2008 for the housing crisis. And that will be sight to behold
Haha, couldn't agree more bro it's not a question of being poor or rich. The moment they think they can live off debt money, that's the definition of Russian Roulette lifestyle. All it takes is a single financial catastrophe. 2022 recorded highest ever Repo in recent history... it's the tip of the iceberg. 2023- golden year for used cars at ridiculously cheap prices.

How does driveway work? Is it similar to Carvana where you submit details online and they come inspect and pick up the car?
Pretty similar. Instead of inspecting at pickup, they have you do a virtual inspection via a dozen or so photos that a web app on your phone guides you through. All else is done online, via text/email, and/or phone.

some people are nit picky.. like people buying corolla/civic and expect mb/bmw in term of material and build quality...

kind of like the folks who go on yelp and rate fast food joint like micky d and taco bell and why their services suck and arent michelin star quality

Put 30K into TSLA stock. Wait for the car to delivery in a month, sell the stocks and pay it off. no loan needed. Will that work?

Better yet: use expected $7500 tax credit to buy TSLA calls. Either you 5-10x your money or your fellow tax paying citizens paid for your option play.

Why the mods allow you to post this blatant lie over and over and over again is sort of telling.

Actually it is at least 2 lies, I won't include your lie about the Civic.

There is NO Tesla that is $37K period! You cannot count rebates that not everyone qualifies for and the whole IRA is in flex. And Corollas are NOT $36K

The cheapest stripped Model 3 available now is $45,630 +TTL

The cheapest stripped Corolla is $22,645 +TTL

So the Tesla is DOUBLE the price. Let me explain that for the simpletons...

You can but 2 Corollas for the price of 1 Model 3. OK?

So stop lying and mods, do your job and delete these blatant lies. Unless you like them and support them.
well theres a lie you're telling yourself.. that people can buy civic at msrp LOL.. 99% OF PEOple can't walk into a stealership n ask for msrp or below civic and not spend 10 hours talking to air while their sales guy go chill with his manager n smoking a cigar while u wait

The number of people that have bought teslas and flipped them a year or two later for more than their purchase price is more than any other vehicle in the history of the world due to price raises and tax credits. YMMV if youre an idiot and are bad at selling cars of course

I still do not know why Tesla is not swapping their existing inventory to lock the customer which is just cutting 1000 dollars or 2000 dollars

Not really competitive enough than the Tesla?

2nd this.
I'm not Tesla fan until they cut the price. But these sale men at Honda and Toyota in the last several months has been ignoring us or pretended their cars are hot cakes and no negotiation.
