Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Unfortunately he is correct. We are in odd times where we can get a interest rate on car for less than interest paid in High Yield savings or a CD. The goal is to make sure your not financing it for to long (or greater cash down payment) that your upside down if something goes wrong ie totaled the car in crash etc. But if your doing this right and have the cash should something happen you could easily pay for the loan. Its old school Dave Ramsey thinking to say its better to pay with cash and often its right but with these CU offering sub 3% rates he is correct in the math.
Too many uneducated trolls in here. I give up. This waiting game for a car is real though.

Have you looked at their PoA document? Any idea what account no goes in the 2nd blank? Think that's my Tesla order number? I don't have an account yet back from Tower and wanted to get this document back to them today.

Put 30K into TSLA stock. Wait for the car to delivery in a month, sell the stocks and pay it off. no loan needed. Will that work?

So I got a vin number and the estimated delivery date moved to Feb 15th to 22th. And Tesla is asking for active insurance and payment.

I am a bit confused about the insurance. What date do I ask my insurance agent to activate the insurance? I certainly do not want pay insurance premium for those dates when I don't own the car yet.

And is it only when I submit insurance info. and make payment in the app would Tesla arrange a pick up date/location?

Sorry first time buying a car online.

Has anyone got Certificate of origin document from tesla? My credit union asking for that document to approve the loan and tesla gave one but it had incorrect VIN. I am chasing tesla for a correct document for about 5 days now but they are not giving (other than some vague text reply likely from a call center). My credit union will not proceed with out that!

Lol I think online is a first for most of us.

I got some quotes to figure out who I'm going with (Costco). Then I waited for the email to setup an appointment date & time. Then I went back to Costco set the date and paid them. My date could still change but I needed insurance in place for the loan.

Tesla need this to apply for registration. Get an insurance with a date like 17th. If actual date changes, you can call your insurance and update.

Supposedly Tesla claims they need your insurance at least 3 days in advance to do the registration and get you the temporary permit so you can drive out the car when you pick it up.
This is kinda strange. Normal dealer does not require that and always have a temp permit. You usually have 30 days to put the car on your insurance.

But you are buying a Tesla so you need to follow Tesla's rules.

What your withholding "prepayment of the year's taxes" is has no bearing on this federal (not Tesla) tax credit. What you look at is at the end of tax form, what it says your "total tax" is and if that's what the (up to) $7,500 wipes out.

Now, as shorthand, if you see $10k withheld from your W2 and ended up breaking even or paying more when filing your taxes, then that means your total tax was $10k or more. Otherwise, you would have gotten a refund.

Still, it isn't that withholding that matters, but it can be used as shorthand.
First of all thank you for responding to my post !

So in simple layman terms are you suggesting, if i see Federal tax withheld as 10k in box 2 of my w2, then i don't have to worry and i will surely get a $7500 tax credit ?

You don't , at least in California you get 30 days to add it to your policy. They are asking for your current proof of insurance

I got one when I picked up our 2018. Tesla didn't provide it in advance. Glad they are at least trying to be better at that, though they are failing in your case. I'm surprised the CU needs that to proceed. Tesla provided that to me simply because this was a state they weren't allowed to register for me and the DMV needs it. I've never received one from any brand before.

Yes, IF you don't normally get a refund.

If you normally get a refund, look at what your 2022 (or 2021 if you aren't ready for 2022) tax return lists as total tax.
