Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

I'm assuming you are with Geico, had the same shock when I added Tesla Y, they add something called Mechanical Breakdown insurance which raises premium considerably, not sure how significant is that, so I switched to different carrier without that coverage, now its on par with other vehicles, something to look for,
You could remove the mechanical breakdown insurance. It's an optional add on.

Wow insurance pretty much doubled with this car. Hope you guys who are buying this are getting a insurance quote too.
I got a quote for mine from my Erie agent. Currently 2 cars and 2 adult drivers, no accidents or tickets.
Current annual premium is: $1130.32...when we add the new vehicle with Repair/Replacement Coverage, the new premium would be: $2028.85...without the Repair Replacement, the total annual premium would be: $1933.85.

The Repair/Replacement Cost Coverage gives you Replacement Cost coverage on the new Tesla instead of Actual Cash Value if you totaled the vehicle.

I will likely add the Repair/Replacement Cost Coverage
I will be removing the 3rd car as I have a buyer ready to purchase it so it should come down some.
SO roughly $900 a year. It is a 50K MSRP car so I am sure the value has some effect.

Curious where you came out and where you're located... my 6 month premium is now around 1k at Geico.
I moved to farmers Insurance, I was paying around $1k(for 2 cars) with Geico now paying half. My employer has tie up with farmers on payroll deduction, thats one of the additional discount i got moving. Give a try with Farmers.

Will do, thx. I think it's the area though, every time I've checked previously, Geico was the cheapest

Everyone seems to be putting that, but I don't get why. This form is for Tower to sign on your behalf for any title changes, such as filing their lien or correcting errors. It has nothing to do with Tesla and should indicate the loan # ideally.

Have you driven a standard Model 3, yet? Since you're in touch with the driving dynamics of high performance cars, the biggest change/improvement will center around two areas:
1. The difference in weight distribution due to the batteries being very low. You may never realize just how much the 1000lbs+ of engine/transmission sitting relatively high up does to cornering feel.
2. The 'direct' feeling of Teslas for acceleration. Mash foot, go fast. Even the most modern of cars introduce a perceptible delay from the accelerator through the ICE, through the transmission to the wheels. There's just so much 'stuff' in the way, and when it all disappears in a EV, it's hard to go back.

The rest is more subjective. I like the minimalist interior and the frequent software updates. I don't miss the exhaust noise, it just feels obnoxious at this point. Considering my electricity plan is free on the weekends and I have 10K free Supercharging miles, my fuel cost is literally $0.00. That makes it more fun to just go take it out for 'no reason' other than to have fun/explore.
I have not test drove a Tesla, probably should have but replacing G37 sedan for M3P seems like a good upgrade. Everything in the G is dated from the navigation to the info screen. Watch to many hours to count on reviews and tips for M3. Mainly getting it for the wife as she hates filling up gas laugh out loud You don't know how many times she has pushed the fuel tank is almost empty gauge. Almost like that Seinfield episode with Kramer and the Saab, the needle is past the E! Will be my first New car since 2004 yah!Wave Always bought used 4-5 yrs old with cash.

When they uploaded it to me it that field was blank. So I was unsure and someone recommended the RN Reservation #. I got 2 of them notarized as back up one with loan # one with RN # in case they complain. Don't want to go inside a bank again unless I have to. Someone here posted they did the RN # and they have their car and loan already.

Smart move. I don't think it would make a difference for delivery and loan closing insomuch as it is simply to help whomever physically handles it to know which file to put it in.

When I had to do these previously, it was to avoid mistakes in searching by name and instead it gets filed alongside any other paperwork for the loan so the person at the lender filing the lien and such have it readily available. Thankfully, it seems like Tower is doing a good enough job on that clerical aspect.

May yours go without issue!

So I got a vin and updated delivery day estimate.

Do I have to finish submitting my insurance info and making final payment for the app to provide exact date or slots for me to take delivery? Or it will update me on the date/location later regardless if I finish those two steps and I will be fine so long as I finish those prior to taking the delivery?
I had the ability to schedule delivery before uploading insurance. I set my appointment up Monday for the following Wednesday (1 week from today). I still don't have the ability to make final payment in the app.
