Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

I have not test drove a Tesla, probably should have but replacing G37 sedan for M3P seems like a good upgrade. Everything in the G is dated from the navigation to the info screen. Watch to many hours to count on reviews and tips for M3. Mainly getting it for the wife as she hates filling up gas You don't know how many times she has pushed the fuel tank is almost empty gauge. Almost like that Seinfield episode with Kramer and the Saab, the needle is past the E! Will be my first New car since 2004 yah! Always bought used 4-5 yrs old with cash.
Just go to the tesla web site, choose the model you are interested in purchasing, and request a demo ride. You can then schedule a 1 hour demo ride at the tesla store nearest you. Enjoy.

I just checked my account and estimate delivery date is between March 13-31, isn't the $7,500 tax credit expire March 1, 2023? Does anyone have estimated delivery date in mid-March?

My understanding is that the loan processor will not even look at the loan until the membership account is established. And if I hadn't tried to reach out directly I'm not quite certain how he would have known that my membership had been setup. Best bet is try to get someone to escalate you membership app and then get a hold of your loan processor as soon as possible once that is established.
I called them today and after an hour hold I spoke the members department. Her first question before I could provide my application number was when did you apply. I made up the story that my loan processor suggested I call because it is holding up my loan. She was nice but told me there is no way to expedite my application and that they are currently working on applicants from 1/20/23. My app is 1/29. I feel it is unlikely they will have me processed and my loan distributed by next Wednesday (2/8) when I'm supposed to take receipt of MYLR.

Congress has to meet to change it. There is zero expiration. Congress says they'll meet in march that's it

Im in nyc went from 1600/6months to 3200
Thats fairly common in NY/NJ area for insurance to double by simply adding MY. I had the same in NJ - went up from 1038 (for 2 cars) to 2098 (for 3 cars). I had to change to AllState, thru an agent and got same exact coverage (some sections is even better) for 1300 for 3 cars. I will be selling one eventually, so my 6 month premium will drop from 1300 to ~950.

Key is to move and reduce, just like cable Smilie

Suppose if I find a vehicle pop up in some other parts of the country ,Whats the process to transfer that vehicle over to my existing reservation ? I can probably put another order hoping that tesla would refund my 250$ ? Also not sure how you guys are dealing with registrations outside the state you live in ?

Tesla will not transfer the vehicle, they will ask you to get there and pick it up.

You are in for a (good) shock then Smilie

My recommendation to someone who's never driven one but soon will own one... get used to the brake regeneration. Learn it, love it. Your brake pads will last 100K+ miles, seriously.

Also use set the stopping function to "Hold" (in the Controls section). It's going to take a day to get used to... but you may literally never put your foot on the brake pedal in a day, except to change from Drive to Reverse.

I would challenge that ... to first use the creep mode, like the first week or 2 if you are coming from a gas car then gradually yes move into the "hold" mode.

If you are used to driving a manual transmission ICE car though, roll will best match the existing behavior one is used to.

I got a quote for mine from my Erie agent. Currently 2 cars and 2 adult drivers, no accidents or tickets.
Current annual premium is: $1130.32...when we add the new vehicle with Repair/Replacement Coverage, the new premium would be: $2028.85...without the Repair Replacement, the total annual premium would be: $1933.85.

The Repair/Replacement Cost Coverage gives you Replacement Cost coverage on the new Tesla instead of Actual Cash Value if you totaled the vehicle.

I will likely add the Repair/Replacement Cost Coverage
I will be removing the 3rd car as I have a buyer ready to purchase it so it should come down some.
SO roughly $900 a year. It is a 50K MSRP car so I am sure the value has some effect.
the positive thing about replacement cost add on coverage is that it protect you in market situation where cost increases.. so like u bought car for 42k in 2020 and in 2022 it cost 70k.. theyll eat up the 70k to get you a tesla replacement should your tesla gets totalled..
