Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Do you know if you can continue to note issues (gaps and stuff) throughout the 30 days, or is it a one time deal? Or, Report them all at one time and you're outta luck after that.
What are the gap limitations?

I'll pick up from Decatur also. I haven't been given a delivery date yet. Gold Coast is just waiting on the motor vehicle purchase agreement to be available, final numbers, and they'll send the money. She said they've done plenty Tesla loans. And no POA needed like Tower.

MYLR
Ordered 1/14
Grey/black
19" wheels and towing.
Do you think i should apply for the membership and loan all together or wait till i have the VIN ? ...

You raise a service request via the app. You can put the panel gap specifics in the notes.
and service team will then just tell u gap is within tesla spec and do nothing lol. i reported 7 different gaps and only 3 of them were adjusted. rest just within spec. my frunk gap is so wide that i can see the inside through gap

Ordered MYLR white without any addons on 1/18 with estimate delivery Jan-Mar. Today delivery got updated with Mar30-Mar31. Looks like federal credit won't be there (or may be) in March and if the delivery slips into April for any reason, for sure it won't be there.

Looks like I am at a loss of $250.
Oh CRAP!! That's a lot later than I had planned on. I ordered originally on Jan 16, but changed my order. Est del date got pushed out about 2 weeks "at that time." I wonder if they'll push my del date even further out like you. I think there could be some cushion on the date. Government isn't known for being speedy, except for voting themselves a raise. But if there's some sort of political statement being made, they may render a decision March 1st. I'm in the same boat as you. I think $250 is worth the risk.

If you contact them, they will likely let you change your delivery date. I text them the number they sent me the Vin from.

I'm still waiting on Tower membership. It's been 10 business days. Do you have any tips? I plan to just pick up my vehicle tomorrow and pay cash and then refi when tower finally approves my membership.
Thanks I texted them. I called the Tower 800 number asked them to expedite my membership. They told me I had to wait and then someone called me later that day. Not sure if I was lucky of if they actually expedited the request.

Edit they responded via text that the M3P wouldn't arrive until 2/18 so my booked date is the earliest. Oh well atleast the CU loan stuff is in place as I was stressing the no response and timing of it.

The recommendation is to just do your existing plan. No sense in stressing and trying to get Tower to overnight a check today vs. another week or two.

Well they've dragged on too long now but I'll try that again with them. If they take too much longer, my 30 day preapproval will expire.

Ha ya. I'll just get them to refi. But my cash plan wasn't without stress. I had to make some market sales and get past some withdrawal limits. It's not something I do every day and the platform I use told me my actions appeared high risk. I was like give me my damn money

I had the cash, but I wasn't sure yet that Tower would refi from a free and clear title (many lenders do, but not all do). Thus, I ended up getting a loan from DCU. I've worked with them in the past (and was already a member), so they got it done same day.

Now that I'm a Tower member, I see cash out/free-and-clear title is an option on the app process from inside their portal, so they should be able to support it.

I really appreciate you confirming that. I only saw the rate is the same for a "used" vehicle so I guess I assumed they would let me refi a title I own. I doubt they will let me for the full value of the vehicle as now it is used but we'll see. I'll be ok no matter what.

Data point:
-Ordered MYLR midnight silver w/ no other upgrades on 1/15 (initial delivery Jan.-Mar.)
-1/18, delivery updated to 1/26-2/23
-1/24, delivery updated to 1/30-2/13
-1/31, delivery updated to 2/6-2/20
-2/7, delivery updated to 2/7-2/19

So at this point, who knows. I'm not in a rush for it, but I am also not financing.

Looks good. Range is lacking, and that's important to me. I wonder what the $60K version is like. I wonder if it qualifies for the battery thing (the entire $7500)? That'll matter big!
I agree, it's a sharp looking SUV. It's probably assembled outside of the US. When I special ordered my RX, it took a few months & was shipped from Japan. The range on the RZ is lower so you'll have to wait for their 430 mile solid state battery sport vehicles. laugh out loud
