Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.
  • Refer to the forum thread for additional deal discussion.

If anyone is interested in hard numbers to figure out how much less expensive it is now compared to Tesla's best deal of 2022 - $7,500 discount with 10,000 free Supercharger miles - I bought a Tesla Model Y Long Range 7-Seater with white interior in late December 2022.

Excluding taxes and fees, I paid $63,940. It's now $59,630, which is $4,310 less, and it is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. That means if I didn't buy it in December and bought it today, I would have saved $11,810 + sales tax, so a bit over $12,000 in savings I missed. (I got 10,000 Supercharger miles, which is worth somewhere between $500 and $1,000.) With taxes and fees, I paid $71,578.55 in total.

For those who do order, I recommend this Tesla Prep guide [glideapp.io] to check for build quality issues on delivery day.

I hope this helps,

Tesla plans to add a new radar product to its vehicles in mid-January, according to documents posted with the Federal Communications Commission.

The disclosure, which was first reported by Electrek, comes as the company faces scrutiny over the safety and capabilities of its standard advanced driver assistance system known as Autopilot and the $15,000 optional upgraded product branded as "Full Self-Driving." Tesla FSD beta software offers some automated driving features but is not a self-driving system.

The luxury EV-maker has long claimed it could reach full autonomy through a "vision only" approach that shuns other sensors like lidar and radar in favor of cameras and a deep neural network that quickly processes a vehicle's surroundings and responds in real time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously promised to "solve" full self-driving by the end of this year (he's also promised Tesla would get there every year for roughly nine years now). He has recently admitted the problem will take longer to solve.

And perhaps, as every other autonomous vehicle technologist says, it's not actually achievable yet through cameras alone.

The company began removing radar from its vehicles last May. In October, Tesla removed its 12 ultrasonic sensors from Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built for North America, Europe, the Middle East and Taiwan. Ultrasonic sensors measure distance via ultrasonic waves and are used as proximity sensors to support anti-collision safety systems, particularly in parking use cases.

Now it appears radar is back. It's not yet clear which models will get the new radar. The type of radar Tesla intends to market next year is of a frequency that's allocated by the FCC for ADAS use cases, according to Ram Machness, chief business officer at Arbe Robotics, which produces ultra-high-resolution 4D imaging radar.

Tesla had originally filed with the FCC to use the new radar — which is described in filings as "76-77 GHz Automotive Radar" — in its vehicles back in June.

"From the frequency of operation (76-77GHz) as well as the mechanical design of the sensor from Tesla's FCC filing, it appears that this radar would be utilized in ADAS applications," Steven Hong, VP and general manager of radar technology at semiconductor company Ambarella, told TechCrunch.

He noted that while the performance of this "edge" radar sensor will be limited, it's a positive development that Tesla is looking to add radar to its perception stack for safety-critical, robust performance.

Earlier this year, the FCC had granted a confidential treatment to Tesla in order to keep the details of the new radar under wraps. Late last month, Tesla applied to extend that confidentiality treatment another 60 days from its date of expiration, which is December 7.

i hope this answers your question

edit: ACTUAL LINK TO DEAL https://www.tesla.com/modely/design (SD's link goes to existing inventory page)
Wayback Machine if anyone wants to do some research: https://web.archive.org/web/20220...ely/design

I'll throw out some notable 'milestones' , focusing only on the Model Y LR base model:

* Feb 2021 - $49,000 - Roughly the lowest price for the Y LR (not including the SR @ $42k)
From this point forward, Tesla started increasing the price about $1-2 every month or so, until it peaked out at $66,000. Ex:
* May 2021 - $51,000
* July 2021 - $53,000, etc...
* Feb 2022 - $59,000, etc...
* July 2022 - $66,000 <-- peak
* Dec 1 2022 - $66,000 (-$3750 credit/refund)
* Dec 15 2022 - $66,000 (-$7500 credit/refund)
* Jan 1 2023 - $66,000 back to peak (-$7500 fed tax credit only on 7-seater)
* Jan 13 2023 - $53,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Jan 23 2023 - $53,500 (-$7500 fed tax credit on base model + 7-seater but not performance)
* Feb 4 2023 - $55,000 (-$7500 fed tax credit on all models)

Anyone planning to get PPF and/or Ceramic coating done on your Model Y? I am not sure if I should go for it. It's a lot of money. Any suggestion?
Too much money. Honeymoon period for me will be 2 years, after that, I won't care about dings and all of that. Cost for full front PPF up in Seattle is $1500, full car is $5500. Xpel stealth (satin) even more. I am going to tint the windows though.

Are you guys making the payment in the app before getting the car? Does the payment option shows up after you update the insurance? Right now it does not shows me the payment option.
In the app. They use PLAID in their app and you log into your bank account and do a direct debit.

Couple people picking up their cars: depending on the region, you can get Tesla to install front mudflaps and side PPF for free. I know it's available in the PNW.

As far as accessories, I've order the following and will reply back with some feedback after I pick up my car this weekend. Most are purchased from amazon for ease of shipping and return:

No. Just small pieces on the door. Also dependent on location - colder weather places will have them. If they don't, ask them when picking up the car or text them to schedule an appointment for them to install them.

you can also take a bank check (treasury check) for the remaining money to "Telsa Inc" also, instead of plaid and handover at the time of delivery.

Got my white MYLR standard today (MA). Austin build so no matrix lights but build quality is nice, suspension - dont know the comfort or not, but quite smooth than the test drive/my friends 2022 freemont. My battery was about 47% but they kept in supercharger till the paper works and i left at 81%. Installed a 3d mats at delivery location itself. Only thing that sucks youtube music - no app, even while using the browser stops while driving, ended up using apple music (trial).

Same time another person was picking a grey MYLR, which is freemont built (ordered same date as mine) which had matrix lights and no panel gaps, but the car door was very hard to close (when they closed, it didnt close fully, need to re-open and close very hard - i tested too and way harder than mine). They come from too far and happy to still take it as the tesla guy said new can be hard and soon it will be alright !( may be they will get used).

All cars had PPF/front flaps/trunk dividers/carpet mats.

Yeah, I saw that too. Some of them (on aliexpress) specifically call out for 2022 only or China made only. I'm just gonna wait because I'm not in a hurry.
Yeah the 2021-2022 ones seem to be about half the price in many places I saw them. That's all I was finding at ali. I want the ones that are rubber/waterproof on the inside but with the lid that is nice and flush with the trunk. That way we could put sandy stuff or whatever in them and then pull them out and wash them without dirtying up the trunk.

lol, I see they even sell refrigerators designed to fit in that trunk space:

The superliner will arrive 1 and half month from now and they have xpe version which can ship out immediately. Xpe vs tpe, what is the difference/better?
