Deal Details
Tesla has dropped the base price of the Tesla Model Y from $65,990 down to $52,990. This price reduction means the Model Y now qualifies for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit (details here).

Thanks to Community Member MurraytheDemonSkull for finding this deal.

Additionally, the base prices of all Tesla vehicles have been reduced. The base Model 3 is now $43,990, which is $3,000 lower than before. The Model 3 Performance is now $53,990, which is $9,000 lower than before, and now qualifies for the tax credit.

Editor's Notes

Written by RazorConcepts
  • This is $13,000 lower (19% savings) than the previous base price.
  • Factoring in the tax credit, the price of the Model Y today is $20,000 less than one purchased in December 2022.
  • To qualify for the federal tax credit, one must not exceed the following adjusted gross income limits:
    • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly
    • $225,000 for heads of households
    • $150,000 for all other filers
  • The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due.

Hi Friends, for EV tex credit ($7500) with married joint filing, does spouse also should be there as co-owner in the car title? Is it mandatory to register her at the time of delivery ? I have given only my tax details(#ssn) in the registration process. please suggest. Thank you !

I used this, but there are tons out there, and also YouTube inspection videos.

https://teslaprep.glideapp.io

I just went through the detailed inspection. I got a perfect MYP. Everything perfect in the checklist. Paint and Panel Gap are outstanding. Ride is really smooth and quiet, even with the 21" Uberturbine Wheels. I was worried about that, because people were saying to get the MYLR because the MYP was going to have road noise. But I was going 85 MPH on the highway for about 25 miles, then city driving for about 10 miles. Nice and quite. Even quieter than my last car that was a Lexus.

Not sure if I got lucky and found a Tesla Unicorn, but I hope everyone else here gets a perfect one like I did. Really happy with this purchase so far.
Lucky you!

I was not as fortunate. Fremont build. MYP red.

I picked mine at Tyson Corner, VA. Being Fremont, CA build certainly got matrix light. Like everyone I got issues with blue paint/paint chips/scratches. The Techinican told all custom colors gray/blue/black and red are are running with same issue, except white things are good. It took 1 hour to do all quality check, and additional 90 minutes to touch up the paint but still got scratches and paint chips for which they scheduled appt to bring back to service. I did not liked the experience, since being 10 Auto ownership this is first time in my life a new car has so many issue. drove back to home as unsatisfied customer, since I do not consider this as true hassle free delivery: why the hell customer has to do quality check. Just drive for couple of years, and switch to new EV other than Tesla.

Having both you and your spouse on the car title is up to you. If your combined household income meets the $300K limits you can file the $7500 tax credit no problem. The only issue is if your income alone surpasses the income limits but your spouse does not then you would definitely want the spouse to be on the car title so that your spouse can claim the EV tax credit. Anyone who wants to claim the EV tax credit needs to be on the car title.

Ordered my MYLR on 01/19, EDD pushed back again to 3/25 - 3/31 today. Also financial offer said expired and needed to be resubmitted. what a joke. :-(
If the actual delivery is after March 31, is it a good decision likely to cancel order and loose $250 instead of $3750? Any thoughts? Do you think can argue to refund $250 since it was originally advertised to be delivered February-Mar31?

Won't be the new Y model with HW4 more expensive than current cost?

So the trade off is lower current cost with tax rebate vs. latest HW4 in the FSD and higher cost and higher loan interest rate. If someone badly wants the FSD feature with HW4 and doesn't mind paying more then it may make sense.
We dont know what Tesla will do in the future in say Q4 2023 and beyond. Price can go higher, lower or stay the same. We just don't know. What we do know is that financing rates will continue to go up and with proper certainty that the EV credit will most likely get reduced to $3750 when the IRS rules come out.

We also don't know when the heck Tesla is going to start to reconfigure the assembly lines for the Model Y to build out HW4 hardware in it. At the end of the day you have to ask yourself if its worth the risk of paying for a higher cost for the vehicle especially if you are not intending to purchase EAP or FSD.

No you cannot. I doubt Tesla will honor the $250 refund since you are not doing them any favors and if that was the case, people would be rushing to get the $250 deposit back.

So just to confirm with a lot of confusion going around.

The feds still have not confirmed tax credit $7500 will end March 31, 2023 or any other direction as of today? That means $7500 could still be honored until they declare its indeed March 31st?

It all depends which Credit Card Services you have used. especially using American Express and Apple Card(for goldman sach) with good history of no major disputes they take to refund $250 and write it off. Again I have not seen anywhere by March 31st IRS will come back and issue stating one is not eligible. Does IRS will come and state within next 1 week the new EV Clean enegry I doubt it since remember $7500 is peanuts for IRS and govt since they make lot: like registration taxes going to govt and some county within US have personnel property tax for Auto such as Fairfax and Loudoun County in Northern VA: which itself one has to pay 2000 to county. https://www.irs.gov/credits-deduc...3-or-after

Thanks for these details. Just to clarify:

If I'm the only one on the title but while claiming taxes, can I claim them while filing jointly with my spouse (while meeting the $300K limit, filing jointly)? Will that be fine even if the spouse is not on the title?

Thanks.

Based on what I Tesla said to its employees today, it seems that the Model 3 SR will lose out on the credit but not the Model Y or other 3.

https://electrek.co/2023/03/23/te...ctric-car/

"As for Tesla's other Model Y and Model 3 vehicles in the US, they are expected to retain access to the full tax credit as they are using battery cells built by Tesla or Panasonic in Nevada, California, or Texas."

If this happens to be the case then it would seem that TESLA is just using this to boost this quarters sales. Which is what I said previously. If you think about it, the credit is going to be around for another 10 years, so why cut prices? Only reason would be to boost this quarter.

Please avoid FOMO, if you really want one the tax credit will be around for another 10 years.

It looks like only the M3SR has batteries made in China. The MY and other M3 variants are safe.
