Actually the opposite. The 'slapping' action of an impact will break bolts free that will shear off with just torque, and it leaves you free to focus on alignment and keeping it on, so the heads don't get trashed. Impacts have more than one power setting and you can feather the trigger - it's not just between Off and Nuclear Death mode.

I love this Sunex 3/8" set (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005MVB9Y8) and use it constantly, basically any time I can for clean extracts on older stuff. Unfortunately it's nowhere near the price it was in Nov.

I'm assuming useful when driving long lag screws, such as those used for large swing sets, decks and such...?

Hmm. Always wondered who needs to impact off a bolt with a 3/8" or 7/16" hex head. Those things would snap under any real impact torque.

I've never bothered with 3/8" drive impact sockets for those sizes included here. A normal socket on the end of my 1/4 driver is fine. 9/16" and higher, sure, impact.
Mechanics…

Good mechanics wouldn't impact off small bolts like that.

A bolt with a 7/16" head would 99% of the time be a 1/4" thread. A 1/2" head is used on a bolt with 5/16" thread. A 3/8" hex is a #10 thread!

I guess any mechanics who impact those sizes off also would have bolt extractor kits, no doubt purchase through Slickdeals as well.

Ignoramus here; I understand the difference, somewhat, between tool steel and carbon steel, but what's the advantage to these? Would these be more prone to deformation? Serious inquiry...

As far as the people who wave done work at my place. Electricians, and the seamless gutter installers used a ton of fasteners that size.

Carbon steel. Aka not as strong as proper Chome, but not as strong or as pliable as Chrome Vanadium let alone Chrome Molybdenum…but it's cheap and it won't shatter like polished chrome hand tool sockets. I suppose it makes sense in some use cases. You'll never see a full drawer full of impact sockets like this though that's all I'm saying

When you say impact you mean drivers not wrenches right? And when you say "those things will snap" what are you talking about ? The nut? The socket?

None of it should snap with even the best impact drivers, except the 1/4 hex to 3/8 adapter, which is designed to break first anyway.
