I couldn't disagree more. Viewing angle degradation on a VA is easy to see, and the ones with wide angle filters are noticeably better when off center. Most people don't critically look for faults in a TV, so they probably won't even notice. What is not easy to see is the difference between a TV that has 40,000:1 contrast vs one that is 100,000:1. I think for a lot of people it's not going to be important, and you can still see what is going on from wide viewing angles, without the filter.
The person I was responding to was thinking of swapping a 900 series with a 90 to improve viewing angles, which doesn't really make much sense. Hopefully we can all agree on that.

In any case with the x95k don't forget the rainbow effect too. Smearing the image to acheive slightly better viewing angles is meh. In that price range of an x95k I'd just get the oled... and pay less for a better tv.

If you have kids and people leaving it paused and wandering off then I'd settle for a LCD but probably not that one as it's overpriced. Get a u8h and upgrade your audio with the savings.

Is the Google interface still painfully slow on these? I have a model that's about 2 years old.
I don't have old model. But Google TV is responsive.

The step up model from 1 year prior, X95J was only $300 more than this for 75 inches last month. So this isn't so slick for only 65 inches at this price.

No grid pattern for this one though so that's nice if you game or watch hockey and winter sports. I find DSE to be very distracting and for that reason wouldn't buy a X95J since they all seem to have the grid.

Why is a 7.8 rtings rated TV considered a good deal at this price? There's many more options rated higher at this price.

Was actually rated higher until they just changed their methodology for some odd reason. Some things they weigh heavily may not be as important to you so you should look at the actual review. For instance reflections are poor and viewing angles are meh but if you are sitting in front in a light controlled space then this may be an acceptable trade-off for a VA panel with no contrast limiting coatings. I have a VA FALD set similar to this that I sit right in front of in a dark room and it looks great for movies and shows. If the seating arrangement was wider and the room brighter then I probably would have gotten something different for that space.

As for comparators some would prefer a name brand like a Sony to Hisense or TCL. No argument that something like a U8H outperforms it in most ways, but for mid-priced TV this is still decent.

Would be even better if Costco brought back the $100 shop card. For 900 and the Costco extended warranty and CS this would be a very good value. Without it for 1000 minus 5% it is just ok.

If looking for a better value then the TCL R646 series for 700 or the crazy 600 price is great. It also has Google OS for those who prefer it over Roku like the current model R655.

I couldn't disagree more. The wide angle filters are helpful sure but most won't use it at those angles to notice. It's very easy to see the difference in contrast when blooming comes into play.
The drop off starts at relatively narrow angle, around 10 degrees off center, and gets remarkably worse by 30. If you have a VA panel w/o the filter you can walk around and easily see it. Rtings measures this drop off and has it for each TV they review, so even if this is something you have difficulty seeing, you can check out their measurements.

The amount of contrast lost by the filter is however much more difficult to notice as it is not obvious like the wide angle drop offs. The 95 series still produces good contrast, just it is not as good as it would be without the filter.

slightly better viewing angles
I take it you have never owned a TV with the filter. It has a remarkable affect at even 30 degrees. Rtings publishes the angles if you care.

Which TV are you talking about? How does it compare to an OLED which can be had for the same price or less as say an X95K?

I have the x900h and never liked it. This is rated lower than the H. The model before the H was the best midrange tv before all the gaming features were introduced in the H series I think Sony had to cut costs somewhere for their mid range TVs at the expense of picture quality for gaming features.

I had the vizio p series quantum for a few weeks and the picture quality was significantly better than the H, J, and K Sony TVs. However vizio TVs go to trash after a few years typically

Is this actually a good deal for the 75? Or just the 65?
