Google is offering Google Stadia Users: Stadia Controller Update to Unlock Bluetooth Mode in Stadia Controllers for Free.

  • Note, click "Switch to Bluetooth Mode" to begin the Update
About this Update:
  • Switching to Bluetooth mode downloads a software update
  • System requirements: Chrome 108 or newer
  • Once you switch your controller to Bluetooth mode, you can't change it back to use Wi-Fi on Stadia. You can still play wired with USB in Bluetooth mode.
  • You can switch to Bluetooth mode, check the controller mode, and check for Bluetooth updates until Dec 31, 2023.
F.A.Qs:
  • How do I pair my controller using Bluetooth?
    • After switching your controller into Bluetooth mode, press and hold the "Y + Stadia" buttons for 2 seconds to enter pairing mode. The status light will flash orange.
    • Then, go to the device you want to play on and pair your controller in the settings. Once paired and connected, the status light on the controller will turn solid white.

I hope somebody would figure out some kind of firmware hack or something to get it to work on the switch so I'm a bit scared to get the BT update just yet in case a better hack is made available that somehow requires the WiFi mode to activate....lol

The devices which came with Stadia are actually nice and fully functional. Only negative is often you need a external device to control them. Tablet/phone/PC(with chrome browser) etc. Some of the later bundles came with the current model which has a remote.

I actually liked Stadia, but I was obviously in the minority. Buying a Console or sticking with PC games likely makes more sense, but I enjoyed the big screen/mobile access.

It is hard to build up to the exclusive title level. Stadia worked well for me, but basically you are 100% right. It was a Walled Mobile PC gaming platform. Maybe they should've aimed to be more steam like. Charge just for Mobile GPU abilities.

Still no mater what road they picked it was going to be difficult. They either needed enough users or have to buy studios to get exclusive titles(or both). My guess is maybe the Pro price was a little high, still I really enjoyed it.

Definitely a much-needed surprise from Google with this. I did the update last night and it paired right on up with my surface pro 6. This controller will be my new travel controller simply because of the USB c port.

Ditto I can confirm it does not work with iOS devices. It will pair but that's it. I'll give it another whirl with my PC and steam.

I did get it to work with my desktop however the Bluetooth is pretty weak and drops if a get a foot or so away. Hopefully i'll have better luck with my son's laptop!

I did this with two controllers, my tip is make sure you only plug one in at a time. There is a bug where it says a controller is open in another tab when its not, and it won't let you update. You can get around that by forcing it into the bootloader and unlocking it manually and then it will let you download the update, but there are a bunch of warnings you need to click through.

I didn't have issues playing a few feet away from a PC, no dropouts or lag at least for the 15 minutes or so i messed with it.

I agree about the game selection, that's part of what I meant - aside from abysmal marketing Google made nearly no effort to bring AAA games to their platform

Every bluetooth controller can be used for switch if you have the proper wireless adapter like 8bitdo switch bluetooth adapter.

So sad that Google stopped this service. Stadia is the best game streaming service I have ever used, I tried ps now, xbox streaming and amazon luna and nvidia now, I liked Stadia most.
