My low price target for deluxe plus state is $15 which I got for the last two years . Certainly no higher than $17.50 factoring inflation. Late feb thru march is the best time to buy IMO if you can wait. If you file too early you may miss the tax software updates which may cause you to file an amended return.

No not better than turbo tax if you need a lot of help to do your taxes. I find H&R to be very barebones enter data and be done. TT has a lot of help features H&R doesn't have. I found TT to be easier and helps you get your taxes done.

For the past 2 years I have been using H&R though due to price and my tax returns are easy.

Prior to that, I was 3 decades strong on TT.

In for one.

Just a heads up on the refund bonus, it's only on the Federal return. I usually owe the Feds but get a refund from state to offset it, but everyone has a different situation. I mistakenly thought (the first year they did it) that it would apply to all refunds.

This might come down to superstition at this point, but 20 years of both types of tax software and TT was the only one to make an obvious mistake (actual software bug) on my return about 10 years ago, which HR never has — both have tons of room for improvement and benefit from the user doing their own calculation to confirm everything.

We itemize, file jointly, and had rental property for 10 years, so "medium complexity" for a return. Nothing crazy.

IMHO, both are actually pretty terrible, but still beats doing it on paper or using a barebones freefile program (which are fine for EZ or really simple situations).

This is the worst possible tax software. Except for all the others Wink

Just a PSA, if you have to deal with multiple states, it cheaper to buy these twice and install on 2 different computers and just either import or re-enter federal on both, but only file on 1 state for each PC.
