Mine was one of those but since I had put gas and oil in it they told me to keep it and refunded my money. Found a schematic to remove all the covers, cleaned the carb and it runs fine now. Seems to be that the fuel they test them on in China is garbage and leaves a thick varnish in the carb.

Looks decent but not amazing. At what point or in what use case scenario would I find this to be inadequate and wish I'd ponied up for a Honda? Come out of the woodwork, critics and fanboys.

The size generator you need all depends on what you want to power. This type of generator is suited to being portable so its popular for camping, tailgating, and emergency power of essential items during a power outage. Its not going to power your entire home but will run things like a gas furnace, fridge, freezer, etc.

This one will likely not be as reliable as a Honda or Yamaha but this is also 1/4 the price and is completely fine for the occasional user who knows what his or her needs are.

No longer available. I am in CA, is this out of stock in CA only?
It's not a 'stock' issue - it's a 'state' issue.

Almost matches $300 sams club deal few years ago. Believe this is lowest price since then. I didn't get a chance to use it since I sold it last year and relocated, but I recall to make sure you check fuel line since a lot of units reviewed had that part loose. Other than that, break it in and change oil before use. Renting now or I may have picked one up.

For those in CA, have to be CARB (California resources board?) compliant for emissions, I believe.
Not everyone wishes for that, but the push for better emissions / efficiency gives rest of us high gas mileage etc., too. Not everyone wishes everything their politicians want.

Yes. As I stated above, any appliance that plugs into a standard outlet can be powered. That's because it outputs at least as much as a standard outlet (15 amps).

You'd find this inadequate if you wanted to power 240v appliances or the whole house.

As it happens, all the things I want to power in an outage are on the same end of the 240v house service, so this would run everything I'd want to... so long as the fridge and freezer pumps don't start at the same time, or other heavy loads all hit at once.

In my mind, portable gensets are best used outside the home. If I wanted to power my home in an outage, I'd be looking at a natural gas unit since that supplies unlimited and cheap fuel. Last time when power was out for a week, the 2 petrol stations that were still operating had 90 minute wait times all day long. Better to skip all that and just go natural gas. No worries gumming the carb up with old fuel, too.

I know truth hurst, that is why you will never hear any truth from mainstream media.
Yes, there are many souls that are stuck. I was stuck once in another state so I moved. I just got fed up with BS.

In love it how all these Tesla fan boys in CA just got screwed on their car values.

It was related to a stock/DC issue. The other models were available to ship to CA but not this specific deal. I called Amazon support and at least that's what I was told.

Yeah, I know plenty about electricity in general, and the loads home appliances and things draw. I've done my own wiring (to code), and have been doing a lot of research in advance of upgrading my breaker panel, with an eye to converting to solar within the next few years. With this generator I'm mainly interested in how it compares to other similarly-rated generators, for instance the 2000W Honda generators that pretty much set the bar. Just wondering how this would keep up, and whether I'd be disappointed. My expectations are not high for a $300 generator so I just want to know what is realistic. Main use would be for portable power, car or RV camping, and backup power for a fridge and a few other lower-power things. I'm not concerned about extended blackouts here or having to power everything in the house, or a dryer or welder. This might be enough for me, if the brand and model are alright.

That's clear, and what I was thinking. Just wondering if anyone has any insight on this particular model, or whether Westinghouse generators tend to be any good. The last time we had widespread, extended power outages in my area was like 1996, so I'm not someone who is concerned about powering the whole house, or depending on a generator for anything crucial or for that long. Friends have Hondas and a Yamaha, and no complaints. But I don't mind being the oddball if this is decent. I'm frugal so my money goes further, not cheap or poor! Peace

Don't taint my good name, sir. I didn't vote for this. It's the coastal people that are the issue 😂😂

Same here. I have a couple of the Aldi clones from the 2019 clearance for $150 ea.

I struck gold with the Aldi "Workzone" Inverter Generator as well. I added a magnetic oil drain plug to it, and I managed to install an inline fuel shut off switch as well. I have a larger one for home backup, but bought this for portability if / when needed. It has only had limited use, but it's worked every time I have used it.

I will note that i do not own a Westinghouse. I own a cheaper, even less known name than that (Workzone, I bought it at Aldi's!). Anyway, when invesitgating these further, I had learned that there are only a few different manufacturers for these "cheapie" units. Because of this, you will find that many look almost identical (Pulsar, Westinghouse, Sportsman, etc).

While I like to buy a more reputable item, this is literally 25% of the cost of a Honda. I feel that you can definitely get more than your money's worth ouf of this, but I would suggest a few things that seem to have worked for me:
-Use good oil
-Do a good break in for it
-Add a magnetic dipstick
-add an inline fuel shutoff switch (I did this, I have to remove the cover to access it, but I don't mind because it helps to keep the unit running optimally)
-use ethanol free fuel, and run the unit dry before putting it away

I would love a Honda, but for my usage, I can't justify it, especially when a cheapie model works so darn well.
