Any good (probably not Apple-branded) 24-27" monitor deals to use with the Mini?

You'd be surprised how many people have a need for more RAM. You don't have to be Bezos or anything. 😆

For my work, I often need to have: three projects open in VS Code, four different development servers running, be on a Zoom call, be monitoring Slack, and have multiple Chrome windows with about 18 tabs each.
With your use case, you won't be using a base mac mini, though, right?

i dont think you can use the official apple solution "target display mode" on the 2015 imacs, there may be 3rd party options though
Ooooh. I totally forgot about the target display mode. I have an old iMac that I could try to connect to mac mini. Will do some research. Thanks for the reminder Smilie

For those stated purposes, the base M2 Mac Mini will be better.

You can use the iMac as an external display GRANTED you have the thunderbolt cable and adapter and running High Sierra or earlier on the iMac.
No you can't. The 2014+ iMacs don't support target display.

This is an excellent deal. So good that it really highlights how obscene the upgrade charges are. If I were buy a Mac mini or Mac Studio, I'd just get the base model 256gb SSD, grab a Thunderbolt m.2 enclosure (a real one, not a USB enclosure that says "Thunderbolt compatible") and use an external 2tb NVMe drive for less than the price to upgrade to 512gb internal. It'd be a hassle for a laptop but with a desktop you'd never notice.

On a related note, I'm disappointed that Apple didn't take this opportunity to keep the M1 mini and drop the price to something shockingly low (for Apple). It would have been a great way to convince the marginal user (or organization) who is tempted by Macs to give them a try. There's precedent, too: the base model iPad is frequently on sale for under $300 (and is always $299 for education) despite being more powerful than any Android tablet. The most recent base model is no longer that cheap, as they overbuilt the 10th gen and are charging $450, but they kept the 9th gen around to make sure that there's still an easy entry point to their ecosystem. A $350 (or even $450, regular price) M1 Mac mini would have been an excellent way to round out their computer lineup.
Not surprisingly Apple historically has always been about preserving margins not expanding market share. That is a typical boutique product company strategy like LVMH for example. It seems it drives their stock value higher than market expansion strategy. Although I am surprised that they didn't adjust for their increased growth and much faster growing margins in subscription services, which inherently requires growth in market share. I am confident a team of bright people is calculating this 24/7 Smilie
Apple doesn't have a huge cloud service impact in K12 or higher academia, probably that's the reason not to sacrifice hardware margins for base products.

You can still buy it from Costco with a Citi card that offers 2 year warranty, right? Like the Citi Premier ($95 AF) Or does that not stack with the All State warranty.
It stacks. The cap of manufacturer + extended warranty (from anyone) plus 2 years citi is 7 years max. I've filed several claims over the years

4K 60hz, just like the current M1 models. The only way to get 4K 120hz out of the M1 and base M2 machines is by using Thunderbolt to DisplayPort, but LG TVs don't have a DisplayPort so that isn't an option.

Trust me, I'm just as bummed as you are…
M2 Pro version of the Mac mini now supports up to 4K240 through the HDMI port. A welcome but overdue upgrade.

This is great and all, but we're talking about a base price of $1,199 vs. $499. Like, it's not even the same product anymore.

Also just realized that across the line they only have gigabit ethernet.

Edit: Does this work?

To those who are adding more RAM… is it also worth it to increase the size of the SSD to 512 Gb? Or is RAM the only upgrade worth getting?
Get the storage upgrade as well, because the internal SSD on the 256GB model has half the bandwidth as the 512GB. The read is 1300MB/s on the base model which is pretty fast. But considering you will be launching big programs and may anticipate swapping, it would be a worthwhile upgrade. You don't need to go more than 512GB because an external ThunderBolt SSD would solve your storage needs unless you run out of TB ports.

TL;DR: prioritize RAM if you're picking RAM or SSD, but if you have extra money also upgrade SSD to 512GB.

I'm assuming the answer is yes. It's just the Costco Citi Card that is removing the 2 year additional warranty.

The title of the product even says "max resolution on any mac is 4K 60Hz". I wish it did but no usb-c to HDMI 2.1 will transmit 4K 120Hz on a Mac mini/book.

LG 24MD4KL is a very good choice. https://www.lg.com/us/business/co...24md4klb-b

MSRP is high. I recommend shopping for a refurb on eBay or Amazon.
