I nearly grabbed this in the store a couple of weeks ago, glad I didn't.

https://www.costco.com/oral-b-sma...82156.html

Went to buy it today and the item has been upgraded. The toothbrush now has 5 settings instead of 3, and there's a separate mode select button so you don't have to toggle through all of them to turn it off. Pretty sure this is in store only, the website still shows the old version. I'm attaching a picture of the new box.

I bought the older version a couple weeks ago. I'm still glad I did, even though the separate Select Mode button feature looks like a great idea.

I didn't understand the big deal between manual and electric toothbrushes before. I wish I would have switched years ago.

Great find OP. Wife left hers on the cruise ship. We been switching heads and sharing one cuz these always go on sale and we are always at Costco anyways. So guess she gets the upgraded model and gift the other.

Not sure if I will get the new version or not, but I think I'm gonna place an order online. Was thinking of getting electric toothbrushes for the wife and myself and this seems to be a good price on a highly reviewed unit. Thanks OP, maybe I will get lucky with the new version, but I doubt it.

Had the Sonicare E-Series for what feels like 20 years... Why does a toothbrush need multiple settings?

So what is the difference? Do the electric ones make a significant difference in cleaning?

Huge difference. It's like getting a professional dental cleaning. I can feel the difference between the teeth. It maybe just the round brush head vs rectangular.

I read the manual for the different Modes. I just use the first Mode, and I don't pay attention to the built-in timer too.

This. Had oral-bs for about 20 years. Bought "upgraded" ones likely for shopping addiction more than necessity. They all work similar, that is, much better than manual.
I found the only useful feature on these are the timers. My current one does a mild vibrate every 30 seconds for two minutes and then stops. I don't partition my brushing to each quadrant, but it's nice to know when you hit 2 minutes.

Not sure how much of a difference the multiple settings make, but the main advantage of the new version is the separate power button. On the old model with only one button, you had to cycle through all the modes to turn the toothbrush off.

I also have noticed another upgrade after using it a couple of days. The main negative reviews of the original were the single button, but also the handle being just slick plastic with nothing to grip when it got wet. The new one has a rubberized back with ridges so it's easier to hold. Looks like Oral-B listened to customers and fixed the main problems.

I was an Oral B user for 15 years and recently tried an ultrasonic toothbrush, so much better results even my hygienist asked what I had changed in my cleaning routine.

I bought the old one a week ago. So the only difference on the box is the new one will say 5 setting instead of 3 then?

I posted a picture of the box, not sure if it shows up on mobile. You can see the separate mode button when you look at it in the store. My location still had both models on the shelf together. It's pretty easy to spot the difference.

Burst, but any ultrasonic will do.
