Sitting in my wish list for a while, noticed it had quite the price drop from $36 to $21
Another must for the DIY Mechanic types.

FEATURES
Determines the amount of current in a fused circuit without removing the fuse. Not only will this save the time needed to remove the fuse, configure the tool, read the current and replace the fuse, it will also solve the problem of inadvertently resetting parasitic drains. Makes it possible to very quickly "sniff out" current in an entire fuse block in the matter of seconds! Finds parasitic drain, measures amp draws on hard to reach fuse boxes, quickly identifies circuit locations by amp draw, etc.
Absolutely the fastest way to measure current

Find current in all ATM, ATO, and MAXI type fuses (most accurate on 5 -50 Amp sizes)
Can detect currents as low as 5mA, easily find any parasitic drain

Never pull a fuse again to read the current

Audible beep instantly tells you if there is any current in any circuit and provides "No Look" effortless operation

Great for those under-dash fuse panels

The tool is battery operated with an automatic shut-off

Use standard test leads to touch the top of the fuse

Probably better off putting the money towards a multimeter rather than a one trick pony

I had to look up this tool to even figure out what it does and I also question why a multimeter wouldn't be better? Please share if there's something I'm missing that the tool does. One of the reviews I read at AutoZone- said you can rent this for free from them so that may help a few SD's that don't need one regularly. I do tend to purchase anything I need more than once, but I'm still at a loss on the value here.

All car battery testers have clamps since they pull a lot of amps. I think this is just a voltmeter which will not tell you your batteries capacity. No CCA, no AH, nothing. Just the voltage which has little meaning.

Multi meters tend to top out at 10 amps. This thing goes up to 50. It's a niche product but it could come in handy .

The value is being spoon fed the information that you don't have to know, just follow the directions. Otherwise you'll have to understand what voltage drop across a known load is and how to measure it properly. Then you have to locate and be able to read a chart to get the amp value based on how much volt drop is across the known load (fuse). With this device you don't have to know all that, just plug in the info it needs, the type and value of the fuse then measure across the fuse, bingo.... it spits out the amp value of the current and you didn't have to understand how it happened.
If your a mechanic and all you want is to get the job done without having to look anything up or understand anything then this is the tool for you. Kind of like a calculator, why bother having to understand the logic when all you have to do and plug in the numbers and the value you are looking for is spoon fed to you. For the $86 that some places want for this I would much rather take the time to look up that chart and use it. But for the $20 ish of this deal, it might be worth it for me to just reach for this and get the job done instead of taking the time to look up the chart I need.

It tells you how much current is flowing through a good fuse, without having to remove the fuse. That could be very valuable. No multimeter does that. One use is finding out what drains the battery, but there are many other uses for knowing how much current is flowing through a fuse.

Better to have both, as mentioned above.

I disagree, this is a great tool for parasitic draw, you would normally have a DVM anyways, this gives you the load on a particular fuse and lets you focus on the ones that have a draw that is above the limit. A DVM doesn't do this well as you'll get 12v on the line

I clicked on it on to realize I bought it on sale 2 years ago for over $50. It's a great tool for parasitic draw situations.

You can do the exact same thing with a DVM. You measure one side of the fuse to the other side and see a .006 or 6 millivolt drop. So the Yellow 20a fuse with a voltage drop of 6 millivolts across it has 1.775 amps flowing through it. It takes a bit more work but you can do it with a DVM, just look up a Fuse Voltage Drop Chart for the the type fuse you want to measure. I can see the benefit of having a device that streamlines the process especially at the $20 price point. But without this deal.... $86 I would much rather look up a fuse voltage drop chart, use my DVM and not have to spend that $86.

Great tool to have and great price, if you don't anticipate using it much it does, as another poster eluded to, appear to be a loaner available at most autozones.

It's worth $20 to not have to go to the store twice to borrow.

I just received mine and I came in a nice hardshell case and the amp hound I received is green so be wary that the color you receive is random.
