Yes, these are cheap, but they're also 3-4 years old. Figure batteries may not be in top condition. And CPUs are several generations old; fine for standard business work but don't expect these to be the best for gaming or video creation/editing.

Likely these are off-lease business laptops. Not TC'ing, just know what you're getting into.

How on earth is an $800 Macbook a relevant alternative to a $300 refurbished Windows laptop?

I also don't understand the 'outdated' concept. An 8th gen i7 will do literally any task that 99.9999999% of computer users do today and for the next 5 years. And 32GB of RAM is a ridiculous amount for even a brand-new laptop. What are people doing with their computers that the above isn't enough? My only concern with this refurbished machine would be battery life.

That's some sound logic right there. True words of wisdom.

Instead of buying a 2 year old used car for $12k you should instead buy a $36k new car because it's better.

Always baffles me when people say something like "it is junk because it cannot run xxxxx game at max settings" when anyone with a working brain should be able to deduce that the device is meant for other activities. Many of these refurb systems can still perform well as school/office/spare systems and it keeps them from being tossed away just because they are a little old. Heck, I still have a 2014 Latitude with an i7 that I loaned out to a cousin for her daughter to do schoolwork on during the pandemic. It still runs lighter loads quite well, especially after I upgraded its ram and installed a spare ssd I had laying around.

The 8th generation chipset they use is 5+ years old. I can't really advise buying a 5-year-old off-lease laptop when new/unused refurb ones with similar performance are within 30% of the price.

For example, this one with a touchscreen is $277 and isn't coming off of a 5 year lease: https://www.lenovo.com/us/outletu...81x3000fus

There is no reason anyone should buy these when you can buy latest gen refurbished one's with 2 year warranty for $385. This is no longer active but wanted to share to give people an idea that there are cheaper and newer options if one can wait for a bit

Costco also has regular sales on laptops starting at 400-450 which will be much faster and have warranty

I purchased one of these back in early 2020, I believe. It was an solid laptop before I upgraded. Don't go below the 7000 Series on the Latitude laptops. Its not worth it. I had upgraded to an 5411 because I wanted cellular on the go, and the 1080p screen included was worse off then the 7490 I had previously.

Are you really comparing the crappy ideapad build quality and keyboard with the latitude? Lol

Keep in mind different people have different needs. I bought a 7200 16GB i7 for about $250 as a travel laptop. It sits unused most of the time since I have a primary desktop machine. When I do use it, it works fine for what I need it for; web browsing and Office products.

Looks like PayPal has 5% cash back on Dell refurbished. Searched for "Dell" in the deals tab.

Got a Dell 5300 2 in 1 touch 8 gen i7 with 16 gb ram two weeks ago. I am very pleased with the unit, I ran the battery report and had about 78% life, I contacted Dell and gave me a 35 usd refund.

I'm not too familiar with Dell Latitudes. What is the difference between 5000 series vs 7000 series?

Also within the series (7400 vs 7490)?

The 8gb models ususally have an open slot?

Dell supports BIOS firmware for several years.

This is a great deal for a used laptop. Battery life is going to suck compared to a Mac but it will be a beast of a PC
"Beast of a PC"??? Lol a modern day Intel 12th generation (not 13th even, since 12th is just now available in most retail built laptops/PCs) i3...yes an i3, will outperform this i7 from 5+ years ago...

I don't like to really come down on people's excitement for products on here...but this is was way to blatant to not point out.

I wish this analogy was true in these strange times. Now you can buy a 2 year old [36k msrp] used car for 42k, or wait a year for a new car at msrp.

...You're comparing the performance of a 15W U-Series Mobile i7 to a 90W Desktop i3. The comparison is beyond ridiculous.

The original claim of it being a "beast" was outlandish, I simply followed the same outlandish comparison to point out the absurdities. A modern basic and entry level 90w desktop processor can "out beast" this machine. This is a fair machine for everyday use, but it's beyond ridiculous to claim this machine is some amazing powerhouse to jump at lol.

We bought two and the batteries were fine. As long as you get 8th gen you are fine. And they are not all too old.

Beast of a PC? This doesn't even have a dedicated GPU.

Tell me how it will run the latest games. It just has a lot of RAM which is cheap in itself and only good for handling a lot of VMs.
Not everyone plays games, bro. It's fine for light gaming.
