The blockbuster phenomenon that charts an amazing journey of the mind while revolutionizing our concept of memory
An instant bestseller that is poised to become a classic,
Moonwalking with Einstein recounts Joshua Foer's yearlong quest to improve his memory under the tutelage of top "mental athletes." He draws on cutting-edge research, a surprising cultural history of remembering, and venerable tricks of the mentalist's trade to transform our understanding of human memory. From the United States Memory Championship to deep within the author's own mind, this is an electrifying work of journalism that reminds us that, in every way that matters, we are the sum of our memories.

It is about his journey, but there is still a lot to take away from this book. The truth is it won't help improve your memory the way you think it will and it requires a lot of work.

I disagree about it not improving your memory. In the book he explains exactly how to build a memory palace, and there are numerous other techniques he explains. He also gives a lot of resources of which you can learn about memory techniques.

I disagree with this as well. It is actually both. It is a story about a guy who gets into memory championship and shares what he learns along the way. It goes into the history of memory science as well as outlining explicit techniques anyone can use to improve their memory. I use some of these strategies to this day, many years after I read the book.
Will you be able to compete in a memory championship after reading? No. But if you put into practice what the book says you will improve your memory.
Well I do agree it's not a how-to. The subtitle is deceptive: "the art and science of remembering everything". While it gives generalized ideas and strategies around mnemonics, it leaves critical details out. For instance, if I use my front porch as my memory palace for my credit card number (which I did, and it totally works), can I never use my front porch for any other memory thing? And if I do, will I forget my credit card number? And related, how do you keep from running out of memory palaces?? And particularly disappointing to me, how do you systematize memorizing prose or scripture? I think it basically says, "repetition works", which is like, ok wow thanks.
Anyway. Good deal OP, a good price for an interesting glance into the world of memory masters in a "huh, that's neat" sort of way.

I agree - there are good memory tips in the book. Thanks to Jennifer Anniston I never misplace my keys anymore. 😀
