PhIlips monitors are made by TPV since mid 00's. It was a joint venture setup and later spun off. They are the largest producers of monitors globally. TPV's other in house brand is AOC. Usually Philips branded monitors have an additional year of warranty. TPV also is an OEM producer of other brands, perhaps such as Dell. Which Philips at one point in the 00's produced all their monitors.

TPV also has the licenses for all Philips TV's produced outside of North America and Philips Audio globally. In North America Philips and Magnavox TV's are produced by Funai of Japan since around 2008/9 under license. Funai was the original OEM manufacturer, long before Foxconn/Hon Hai existed.

Why all the licensing? Because electronics have become commoditized tech with low barriers of entry. Unless you're selling high end products at top prices, you aren't making profits. Especially, when you can get old reliable A/V products dirt cheap at shop goodwill or Ebay. Better to get 5% of sales and not invest a dime. Have you seen LG's giant drop in profits report???

It's almost as if all those cargo ships stuck outside of ports for months on end finally were able to empty their holds of bulky hard-to-store high-value-yet-highly-depreciating items. And now warehouses are stuffed to the gills -- and that's money being lost.

Not only because product isn't being moved, but in some locales, additional taxes/fees are assessed on actual storage in a warehouse (in an effort to promote transactions instead of warehouses sitting on goods).

I bought the 24" in March of 2020 when I started working from home, it's a solid monitor with good color range. No real complaints, but don't get the 27" 1080p, too low of a resolution for that size. 24 is really the max I'd recommend 1080p for

No. Go for 27" and 1440p. doesnt make sense to spend on the latest computer tech and then waste it on a little 1080p monitor in my opinion.
Possibly dumb question, but is that because 1440p is the current "standard?"

I used to follow consumer electronics more closely and was (I think) aware of the period when 1080p broadly became the better choice of cost-vs-value and "future-proofing"; is it correct that we are well into the "phase" of 1440p being the worthy choice?

Thanks OP. This is a great (very modern) looking monitor. I am looking to replace an existing (thick frame) 1080p monitor.

My use is not with a PC. I will use with an older roku unit, taped to the back with a thumb drive with photos. This monitor will serve as a digital photo frame.
in my experience, super cheap monitors are awful photo frames due to horrible off-axis viewing

I bought this a couple years ago to use as a bedroom TV hooked to my AppleTV and would agree the PQ is good, certainly a step or two up from my early 2010s 24' tv. My AppleTV is only HD, so no need for WQHD.

12.5 Watts average power consumption
20.23 Watts maximum power consumption

Please post wattage with monitors, for those of us who use power efficiency
as a factor in deciding whether to purchase. Thanks!

In this case, nice price, decent connections. The only thing more I'd want to see on this is speakers.

Look at the detailed review / description / specs for a monitor and you should see a Viewing Angle rating listed somewhere.

The higher the angle, the better - up to the "gold standard" around 178 degrees.

Monitors with IPS are designed to have very good viewing angles, so if you find an IPS monitor you should be all set.

There are a ton of FHD 1080p monitors in the used market. Can get one for $25 if you live in or near a city. World doesn't need more new FHD monitors.

1440p monitors are still not as common as FullHD (1080p). I think the recommendation was more to pair with the Mac Mini 2 (which is closer to $1000 than $100) because it is a more premium tech item and this is … not.

(24"-class 75Hz IPS for $100 is a pretty good deal, especially if the vertical-axis angles are good and you put two or three in portrait mode).

Pros: IPS, 178/178 viewing angles, $100.

Cons: no brightness specified, minimal adjustments on stand and no portrait mode, 75mm VESA mount is smaller than the most common 100mm.

Seems like a good $100 starter monitor.
