I returned from a Royal Caribbean cruise just yesterday. We booked it after having a great cruise last November. They must have made some policy changes after the new year because it was not enjoyable at all.

The menu has changed with far less options, and the food went from amazing in November to just okay. They are REALLY pushing the paid dining options, and I think a strategy is to make the free main dining experience less appealing.

There are generally three people who help you with your cruise: a main server, an assistant server, and a room attendant. In the past they have been fantastic. I am wondering if Royal issued a pay cut to employees because all the workers seemed just plain sad, and the service was pretty bad. Moving around the ship, the morale of the crew seemed really somber, too. Not the typical smiles and greetings, and some crew would even mutter stuff under their breath as we passed by. Several times I heard crew making fun of or hating on "Americans".

The cruise was also woefully crowded. Not a seat to spare, and despite there being signage to not save seats or deck chairs, everybody still did it without so much as a prompt from the crew. It was impossible to sit anywhere but your room, and lines for anything were unbelievably long. That's typical on a cruise, but this one was over the top.

Two other things... the ship constantly smelled like weed. There are smoking sections, but nobody cared to follow that rule, so every inch smelled like nasty, skunky weed.

Then at night, 12 am to 3 am, somebody in a nearby stateroom was blasting loud music. After complaints from several nearby staterooms, the crew did nothing to stop it or help.

I used to love cruises... now I don't think I'll go on one again.

What am I missing... It says 30% off and children cruise for free but the price breakdown is clearly charging me full price for my 6 months old daughter (even after I go through and enter her DOB further into the checkout process and selected 2 adults and 1 child for the room)...

Think it states interior room. That what you selected?

Still charging me for her when I select interior. Oh well. It also says based on double occupancy so maybe it's only for 2 people including kid rather than 2 people + kid?

I would think double occupancy means two adults + kid. If interior room, 7-nights and you are using correct dates then it may be "select" cruises. Might be different itinerary so may have to choose different dates to replicate?

are there any cruises without annoying, whinny little kids?

Virgin is adults ONLY.

Celebrity, Holland America, Cunard, and Princess cater to adults and likely have very few kids.

The upscale brands (Regent, Oceania, etc...) are likely only adults as well, but much more expensive.

Kids ain't sailing free. I checked price for 2 adults. Then 2 adults+ 2 kids.. Definitely Ain't free. Lastly, Prices are the same as I checked last month. Ain't 30% off bs. It's everyday price.
More factors to that. The room for 4 people may cost more than one for 2

Need some suggestions - I get similar deal for Alaska cruise from Seattle (friend is an employee of RCCL) on both RCCL and Celebrity. Which cruise is better? I took RCCL Western Caribbean cruise last year and enjoyed. Is Celebrity cruise experience better?

I've been on the newest of both flagships. Prefer Royal.

Which cruise was this? If you mentioned kids, I would have assumed it was a Carnival trip.

I prefer Celebrity. They have better room service, way way less overhead announcements, and far less kids. Plus we enjoy the English spin since my husband is from there.
