No one serious looking into a quality ebike is considering these. Zero support after purchase. No local bike shop will touch these. Undersized, low voltage, weak tube battery in the seat post. Belt drive. Underpowered motor. Exorbitant pricing. Does anyone realize what they can buy for $1700? The two positives here are the aluminum frame (yet these still weigh upwards of 45lbs), and the run flat tires. I would seriously spend a few hours on YouTube if you are considering an ebike. If you can't work on one, don't buy one. Because very few shops will. In 3 years, this battery will be non existent and you won't be able to wire a new one up because all the connections are in the frame.

Not sure why the threadcrapping. The first bike is solid: mid drive motor, belt drive, enviolo IGH. Only thing lacking is power, but most city riders in the bike lanes shouldn't really be pushing past 20mph anyway.

The silver arrows sports is solid too with a 500w mid drive and dual batteries. You're paying for "lightweight" and high quality components here and these 50% prices aren't bad. If I hadn't pre-ordered a kit to add to my nice non-ebike (same configuration as these bikes with IGH, belt drive, etc...) I'd be all over this.

I would never buy an e-bike with a built in battery
Every model boasts an optional spare battery... I wonder where it goes?!

Obviously I am not a e bike customer. I am , however, quite curious about the use case for the e-bike. Most of bikers I saw use bikes for exercise, so is e-bike a city life only thing? Any if that is the case, why not just regular bikes? and isn't the MSRP of high-end bikes approach that of motorcycles and mopeds?

bottom line, is there actually a void for ebike to fill when you got cars scooters motorcycles and just a regular bikes?
My sister uses hers to go on rides with her husband. Otherwise, he wouldn't get the workout he wants or she would just stay home. It's a win-win for them

Yes. It's meant to bridge the gap between your biking capability/desire at the moment, vs your trip want/need. 30miles when you normally can only do 20. The hill you can only walk up. Fill in for short car trips when you're lazy.

If you live in a city like Chicago anywhere you go will probably be within 5 miles of where you live. Stops are at every corner. It really makes no sense not to use a regular bike if you live in the middle of Chicago or a city like it. If you live in the suburbs then it makes more sense if you need to go five-ten miles to go to the grocery store and back and you have clear roads to get there. An e-bike is a crutch when you want to go 20 mph along a long stretch of road.

Someday you'll be old and need an ebike for long rides on bike trails like the ones on Cape Cod. And since you're old and can't lift a 50 lb bike you'll also buy a Yakima Onramp bicycle hitch to put them on your car. And then you'll have a lot of fun. We bought the Electra Townie Go 5i and are happy.

Is it as (un)reliable as a real Mercedes?

in for a championship edition ebike for 2900. Now I need to find a mercedes bike rack to hitch the bike behind my Maybach.
Might I suggest this beauty? It's what I use on my McLaren.

Use case is mainly for city commuters (I did this prior to WFH due to Covid). Switching from a regular bike to an ebike allowed me to arrive at the office not drenched in sweat (and needing a shower). Shortened my 30min regular bike commute to a little over 20min, plus the time saved not needing to shower. I then arrive home faster, too and not disgusting, again. You still burn about half the calories as regular biking so you're still getting a workout.

Got the swytch bike kit. It's like ~8lbs. Going to make my 25lb road bike into a 33lb e-bike. Will be one of the lighter ebikes around. Will be weak speed/motor wise, but that's fine. Just need it for the initial boost on red lights, hills, and so that I don't arrive at the bar all sweaty.

E-bikes have their own sets of laws that allow them to be ridden on roads without licenses and insurance. Technically anything else could be considered a motor vehicle. Going back a few years, I knew a guy that got in trouble for riding a motorized scooter. He was charged with unlicensed and unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle. Lost his cdl over it.

Just the other day a house in NYC burned down because another ebike battery caught fire. 1 killed and 10 injured.
