While this is, ultimately, a belt sander, this style of tool is usually referred to as a band file. They are very handy for removing material in tight spots and curves.

For example, Andy, from Boatworks Today youtube channel, uses his Makita version all the time for shaping/grinding fiberglass in places where a random orbit sander or grinder won't get the job done.

They're having for a long time and it was one of the top tools I've been waiting for them to import. Australia has had it for a while but they call it a " power filer" which I think is more appropriate and also leads your brain to the right places of how you would use it. 60. Still kind of a bite in the ass and there's no way they should be charging 250 for this thing whatsoever. It should be 60 bare all the time and 40 on sale or something. Still going to get it. God damn it.

I was able to snag this for $36 from DTO back in early December 2022, mind you, you need to add $15 shipping but I bought a bunch of stuff on the DTO order as well.

$59 is the best deal I've seen on this buying straight from Home Depot.

yeah exactly - I want one but don't know why... the one time I needed to sand something the triangular sanding head that came w/ the oscillating tool worked well. Someone give me a reason! 😂

Also don't get fooled with list price… that doesn't make it a deal.

I have watched a few of those "we go way out into the woods and build off the grid log cabins to live in" youtube channels, and they use the hell out of these to sand all the nooks and crannies in the already built parts of their cabins... I will probably never go out in the woods and build a log cabin, but I have a ton of work to do on the house and have a few things that this would save a ton of time over putting together something to hand sand(like wrapping the tip of a long flat tip screwdriver in sand paper).

WEN makes a corded, but more feature packed version of this too and it is currently only $36.40. I own both the WEN corded model and the RYOBI version, I love being cordless, but I often opt to use the corded version when I need to get in a tight spot, etc.

The WEN version offers tilting of the band and variable speeds, many many favorable reviews at the link -
