Not borosilicate. Pyrex =/= PYREX. The latter all uppercase variant is the good stuff.

Most glass water bottles come with removable silicone sleeves but this comes with non-removable "coated" silicone which makes it impossible for me to inspect for cracks. If it had a wide mouth, at least I can inspect it from the inside. This is giving me anxiety. šŸ˜…

COOL ā„ļø deal! This design is awful, which is why it is only $11. I got one anyways, but also picked up the Blue Tie Dye @ $17 https://a.co/d/ik8KPRv which I think makes the best use of the color changing. I love the Ello glass water bottles, but happy to try this out.

Because this is Pyrex, not PYREX. It's good information for people who want to know, like me.

But why does this matter?

I suppose that if the buyer is inclined to chill the bottle, say in their freezer, then fill it with boiling water, PYREX borosilicate glass would be the bottle of choice.

all caps PYREX is made of borosilicate glass, while lower case pyrex is made of soda lime.
Borosilicate is more resistant to thermal shock and might be stronger*.

*EDIT... this popular flow chart states that soda lime is slightly more shatter proof, which would be more desirable in a water bottle. I can't find anything definitive one way or the other.

You don't want borosilicate for a water bottle. People really blow the differences out of the water.

Borosilicate is better for temperature shock and was the signature feature of PYREX, but this phenomenon is far less common than dropping or banding glass on a counter or floor. Thus most people actually will be better off with Pyrex, the lower case Soda Lime Glass brand spin-off.

Especially in a water bottle, it would be insane to steer people toward PYREX borosilicateā€¦ which is less shatter resistant.

So, this doesn't really matter for this, but borosilicate glass is more chemically inert and resists corrosion better, which really only matters in a laboratory/sampling/purity or aggressive corrosion agents context, but if you're nutty about this kind of thing borosilicate would be better. This matters more for say, a sampling manifold coming in contact with volatile organic compounds, where fused silica (basically pure quartz) is the best, but super expensive.

In case anybody cares about "why borosilicate glass?"
