It's baffling that the U6G has an objectively better picture and is a year older. I think Hisense was still in brand building mode (even moreso) in 2021 and had much smaller margins on those panels. It's counterintuitive that and older model would be a better model but anyway the U6H is a good TV and this price is reasonable
It also cost a little more, typically, especially the regular u6g (not u6gr) for the slightly better PQ. Best deal price was usually 550 when I got mine two Decembers ago and then we had like 10% inflation since then. So 500 now for almost as good PQ and better gaming features is a good deal depending on what you are looking for. If you don't game though I can see that being a little frustrating.

Seems a lot of companies downgrade their LCD's to hit a price point these days. At least Hisense is still making the u8h for top performance at a reasonable price.

Please don't get a google tv… Roku is much better
You can still use a Roku with this. It doesn't matter what system a TV comes with, you can always plug-in something else.

This is what I ended up doing. Roku (for me) is just so much cleaner and snappier, especially on this TV. This TV is a nice overall design, however, despite what rtings says, for me, the interface is slow to respond. It feels under-powered. At least compared to a roku where button presses are near-instant. When you're popping in and out of apps, or trying to search for something on the TV, that extra lag time really adds up and makes for a frustrating experience. Then again, I'm a heavy tech user and sensitive to such things. My wife doesn't notice the difference. But to me, it's glaring. If you get this, I suggest you use the built-in "kids mode". I far prefer it.. why? Kills the annoying adds and cleans up the interface. It should be the 'standard' mode imo.

There's also an issue with ARC and volume control. It works, but it again is delayed. Roku doesn't fix this as it's more an issue with the TV's ARC implementation itself, but worth noting. I think this is more of a Hisense issue, as none of my Sony's, Panasonics or TCL TV's have this problem. Those TV's are instant response over ARC to whatever I have it plugged into.. receiver, sound bar, etc.

This TV will work with the google TV phone app (for TV remote control) but does not support functions that the Roku app does, specifically, streaming audio back to your phone at independent volume levels (which is super helpful for my wife and I. When we're in bed we each have headphones connected to our phones, which are tied to the Roku TV. This allows us to watch Movie's at night night without waking up the kids, but each of us with different volume levels.). You can connect bluetooth devices to this TV, but it doesn't support independent volume settings in the same way I just described. This IS something that can be remedied however by adding a Roku Ultra to your TV (or receiver) input.

I'm pleased with the TV overall, however, I will admit I prefer even my lower-spec TV's with different interfaces. The user-experience is just that much better. I have this TV connected to a computer, (with a Roku on the other input) so the interface is irrelevant in my use-case, but pointing it out as others I'm sure will be using it "as intended."

Also the quantum-dot display and local dimming on this TV aren't anything to scream about IMO. If I put this and our 65" basic 4-series TCL right next to it, you can't tell one has a better screen than the other. It does have nice blacks, but as I've personally found, the amount of time I'm watching TV in a very dark room is about 1-5% compared to when I'm watching a movie in a well-lit room, so "black performance" didn't make as much of a difference (for me) as I was hoping. I would value off-angle performance over dark-level performance. Your mileage may vary.

This all sounds like a lot of complaining, but when you consider the price, I do think this is a solid buy. And considering most of the concerns can be addressed in one manner or another, it's a 'safe' buy as well.

Would you recommend buying this or returning if you already bought? I'm thinking to return the one I got and wait for a good deal on TCL 6 or U8H.

Funny you say that. I'm debating the same thing. I purchased this on their "try for 100 days" promotion, when it was $500 with a $100 rebate (o $400 total), which I have about 5 days until I can redeem.

I think it depends on you and your family. For me, doubling the price (assuming the TCL 6 or U8H are on sale) - would be a hard ask of my wife. She just doesn't care about the different technologies - she thinks this TV (or any TV for that matter) is perfectly fine. I also game on a personal system in my office, so this doesn't serve for any gaming outside of the Nintendo Switch for the kids.

For those reasons, I probably won't be returning. Those TV's are better but not 2-2.5x better. A situation of diminishing returns for sure.

If you're in a different spot though - and this TV is indeed to be used as your primary console TV, or your entire family is really into tech, then it might be worth swapping out. If you don't have a modern gaming console/PC though, I wouldn't - you won't be able to utilize the 120hz screen in a way that justifies the price. That's just my opinion. And yeah the colors should be better with those TV's as well, but honestly, even that's something you get used to/don't really notice after a week or two of owning the TV.

The U8H is on sale here: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/hise...Id=6511974

If you are going to swap, personally I'd look at the TCL (Roku version) first. Google TV is just too locked down with ads for me, and the app doesn't support deeper TV controls as the TV's with built-in Roku do. And there's no guarantee that it'll perform any faster in these higher-end models.

If you want to cross-shop within the price-range of the TV in this ad, I would look at this instead. I own both, and, while this one is a lower spec, I just like it more. I know that's incredibly personal-taste based but, it just performs better overall to me. Commenters in the deal below would violently disagree with me.

Thanks.... Definitely would like a better tv...... One of the comments in the post also mentions U6K announcing soon with mini LED. I'm sure it will cost more than this one but I think there might be some better options (deals?) between the new hisenses and the current tcl6 or U8H.
Also, I prefer google for the basic interface and I use a shield or firestick for streaming. I don't want the tv bogged down with apps and updates etc. Thanks

The recently released TCL S555 is slightly better than this Hisense U6H. Plus I prefer the Roku platform over the Google platform. Both are currently $499 for the 65" model at Best Buy.

I also have an older Hisense HG8 and the picture is fine but the Android platform is still buggy even after many updates. Sometimes when watching a show the TV will switch back to the home menu randomly. I don't even have the remote in my hand, just sitting there on the table. I connected an external Roku device to that one and don't have issues using it that way at all.

The problem is that Google TV will inevitably face software issues or the processor can't handle it over time. I've got a perfectly good TV sitting in bedroom that reboots itself every 15 minutes because of the software. So infuriating tbh. My Roku TVs? Never have had a single software issues that wasn't resolved with a single reboot.

Stay away from Google TV, it gets slow, unresponsive.
Go for Roku TV's, best Operating system and crisp menu navigations.

100% agree. I have this, I hate the Google TV interface. Super slow and unresponsive. You push a button it takes 10 seconds to respond sometimes.

Is this set terrible for cable tv sports? I guess cable is at 1080i and people seem to say this tv doesn't upscale well but looking for anyone with actual experience with it. Rep for any input, thanks.
