Idk, I sell TVs, and the Samsung blows away anything else. Except for a95k but that price is ridiculous.
A big deal is made in all the reviews about "lifted black levels" dependent on ambient light. Do you experience this?

And their conclusion
"Ultimately, the difference between the three formats isn't that important. The quality of the TV itself has a much bigger impact on HDR"

Of course, if I have to pick between Samsung vs Sony/LG QLED/OLED, I'd rather go with more supported techs. I've watch sources from HBO Max DV vs Amazon HDR, DV PQ always has an upper hand.
For me..no brainer, I would buy the Samsung if I had not bought the LG G1 last year
The Samsung is hands down a better picture than my G1

Ok, I understand your preference. However, I don't understand your first paragraph. Did you say HBO MAX has more supported sources with the loss of PQ?
Today would you buy an LG OLED , with a loss in picture quality compared to the Samsung S95B, to get more supported formats
or would you buy the Sony A95K to get the superior picture quality AND more supported formats?
Personally, as I stated before, better picture quality wins all day long for me, until the Sony gets closer in price to the Samsung OR LG releases a QD-OLED at a competitive price to the Samsung
Definitely fair to complain about Samsung's lack of support for formats (personally more irritated about Samsung's and LG's decision to not support DTS passthrough after finally implementing eARC and HDMI 2.1). But if you are on the fence about which TV to buy and picture quality is your biggest concern, this TV smashes everything else at this price.

The Samsung S95B displaying HDR10 absolutely spanks my LG G1 playing Dolby vision
